Woman, 25, crushed to death by LAWMA refuse truck

A 25-year-old woman, identified simply as Pamela, was on Friday morning crushed to death by a truck belonging to one of the partners of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, TFOB Ventures.

The incident was said to have happened at the Kudirat Abiola Way junction, on the Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja Lagos at around 6:30am.

An eyewitness, who spoke to Saturday PUNCH on the condition of anonymity, said the truck driver was driving against oncoming vehicles when he ran into the deceased, who was driving a Toyota Matrix saloon car. He said the deceased died on the spot, while the driver of the truck had been arrested by the police.

Atiku, in an interview with BBC Hausa, in the early hours of Friday, said he had not been invited to the APC presidential campaign rallies.

Family: Woman Who Had Baby Cut From Womb Critical But Stable...

The family of a Colorado woman whose unborn baby died after an attacker cut the fetus out of her belly says she is in critical but stable condition and resting comfortably.

In a statement, the family of 26-year-old Michelle Wilkins thanked police for their work and doctors and hospital staffers for providing compassionate care since Wednesday's attack.

A Police Corporal, Hamza Aliyu, has been remanded in prison for allegedly raping the daughter of a Deputy Commissioner of Police.

The suspect, Aliyu is attached to the state transport and workshop department. The father of the 200 Level Computer Science student of ICT Polytechnic, Onabanjo, Ogun State, who was allegedly stabbed to death by his campus girlfriend has said his son was killed over a mere dream the lady had. 30 dead, 150 injured as train derails in UP's Rae Bareli ...

At least 30 persons were killed and around 150 others injured when the engine and two coaches of the Dehradun-Varanasi Janta Express derailed near Bachrawan railway station in UP's Rae Bareli on Friday.

According to preliminary reports, the locomotive driver apparently overshot the signal and as a result, the engine and two adjoining coaches derailed, railway spokesperson Anil Saxena said in Delhi.

"There could be more casualties in the mishap," Divisional Commissioner, Lucknow, Mahesh Gupta said. The accident occurred around 9.30am near Bachhrawan Railway station, about 50 km from state capital, Lucknow.

Boko Haram Attacks Liberated Nigerian Town, Kills 11...

Witnesses say Boko Haram extremists have attacked a Nigerian town and killed 11 people who had just returned home after the military reclaimed the town.

Resident Mohammed Umara said troops from Cameroon immediately crossed the border and repelled Wednesday's assault on Gamboru-Ngala within an hour.

Umara and other residents have crossed the border to Cameroon.

Nigerian officials this week said they have taken back 37 towns and forced Boko Haram out of all but three local government areas of northeast Nigeria. The extremists seized Gamboru in November and were dislodged on Feb. 4.

The offensive is expected to take back territory and reduce Boko Haram to hit-and-run attacks.

Shocking: Bodies of Five Babies Found In A House In France

Police have discovered the bodies of five babies in a house in southwestern France, a source close to the case said, in what appears to be the country's worst incident of infanticide in years.

After the body of a newborn was found in a thermal bag earlier in the day, officers "discovered four more bodies of babies during their search" at the house in Louchats, near the city of Bordeaux, the source said, confirming a report by French television channel iTele.

The source added that the four corpses were found in a freezer.

I Can Never Forgive Buhari, Says Chief Ayo Adebanjo

Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, says he can never forgive the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), because of the sins he committed against Yoruba leaders while he was head of state between December 1983 and August 1985.

The 87-year-old, who was a close associate of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, said Buhari locked up all the Yoruba governors after overthrowing the Shehu Shagari government.

Cemetery Attendant Wants Funsho Williams Murder Case Retried...

A cemetery attendant, Bashir Junaid, has applied to a Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking an order re-opening investigations into the murder of a former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Funsho Williams.

Williams was murdered on July 27, 2006 at his Dolphine Estate residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Junaid was one of the persons detained by the police while conducting preliminary investigations into the crime.

He filed the new suit seeking an order of mandamus compelling the Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Abba, to re-open investigations into how the late PDP stalwart was murdered in cold blood.

Man, 24, allegedly Rapes Friend To Death (Photo)

Magistrate Martins Akinyemi of an Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, ordered a 24-year-old man, Michael Oyejide, remanded in Ibara Prison custody for allegedly raping his 18-year-old friend, Morenike Ajayi, to death.

The prosecutor, Cpl Moshood Hammer, told the court that the accused and one other at large, committed the offence on January 8, at Ijeja in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He said: “Around 8p.m., Oyejide, alias MI, celebrated his birthday at Adigbe and some ladies were invited. Later at night, the accused and one other got the victim, who is also a friend, drunk.

“The accused and his friend took the victim to his house at Ijeja and raped her to death.” He said they pretended to be sympathizers and rushed her to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead on arrival. “The management of the hospital reported the case to the Police, which led to Oyejide’s arrest,” Hammed said.

The Prosecutor argued that the offence contravened Sections 516, 357 and 358 of the Criminal Laws of Ogun, 2006. The accused, whose plea was not taken by the court, is facing a two-count of rape and murder. Akinyemi adjourned the case to June 5, pending the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP’s advice, for further hearing on the matter.

In a new interview  with Vanguard, Nollywood actress, Angela Okorie said that she has forgiven Muma Gee’s husband, Prince Ekeh over the role he played in the scandal involving her and a South-African based Nigerian, Prosper, in April 2014 . She said that she forgave Prince Ekeh since he came to apologise to her.

Tanzania's parliament has approved a tough new law aimed at curbing foreign employment.

Polish Woman Convicted Of Violence In Own Country Moved To UK & Stabbed Man Again

 A Polish woman repeatedly jailed for violence in her home country stabbed and nearly killed a man after moving to Britain unimpeded, a court has heard.

Anna Marczuk-Franczak, 39, served at least three prison stretches in Poland for a series of attacks dating back to 2002.

But after being released from her most recent sentence in eastern Europe, she moved to Britain and attacked a man with a 30-inch kitchen knife in Nelson, Lancashire.

A judge in Preston has now jailed Marczuk-Franczak for two years for the stabbing, whose victim suffered a 10cm-deep wound to his chest.

A 20-year-old man died after his mother’s boyfriend stabbed him over a pair of sneakers in the Bronx Tuesday night, police sources said.
