Why Gen. Abacha Was Honoured With Centenary Award - Federal Government Reveals

The Federal Government had shortlisted 100 persons to be honoured with Centenary awards as part of Nigeria’s Centenary celebration and the late tyrant, Gen. Sani Abacha was on the list.

Abacha's inclusion sparked lots of controversy and Prof. Soyinka even rejected the award.

The federal government has said Abacha was among those receiving the centenary honours because he was a Nigerian soldier and politician who served as the de-facto President of Nigeria from1993 to 1998.
According to the federal government, though Abacha’s regime was very cotroversial, it was the first to record unprecedented economic achievements.

The fedearl government explained that there was an increase in Nigeria's foreign exchange reserves from $494 million in 1993 to $9.6 billion by the middle of 1997 which reduced the external debt of Nigeria from $36 billion in 1993 to $27 billion, adding that the inflation rate inherited from Babaginda's regime was reduced.

Abacha’s administration was also credited with creating the most comprehensive and realistic blueprint for Nigeria’s development through Vision 2010 committee chaired by his predecessor, Chief Ernest Shonekan.

Jealous Lover Kills Girlfriend, You Won't Believe What Happened Next

A jealous lover has reportedly killed his girlfriend, a student at the College of Education Waka-Biu, Benue state.

Residents of Biu town were thrown into confusion as they mistook the killing for an attack by Boko Haram terrorists.

Members of the civilian-JTF and security operatives took to the streets while other civilians scampered home for safety as they thought the insurgents had invaded Biu and were attacking the people.

According to the state’s commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Mr Inuwa Bawla, who happened to be in his country home, Marama, in Hawul local government which is about 20km away from Biu, the attack was not that of Boko Haram, but a feud between two young men fighting over a girl.

He said: “No it was not an attack by Boko Haram; but a rivalry between two young students over a girlfriend. One of them that happened to be more jealous, used a machete on the girl and she was said to have died. When people in the town heard about the incident they thought it was an insurgents’ attack, so they mobilised to see how they could tackle the attackers until it was made clear that it wasn’t so.”

A MUST READ: 15 Condom Mistakes You Are Making

Putting on a condom may seem second nature to you by now, but are you actually doing it the right way? Sadly fellas, the latest research suggests you might not be.

Researchers from Indiana University analyzed 50 studies on condom usage, and after punching the numbers on 16 years of data, they found a laundry list of errors. Could you be making one of them? Check out the top 15 things that couples are doing wrong when gearing up for getting down.

Late application: Across the numerous studies, between 17 percent and 51.1 percent of people reported putting a condom on after intercourse has already begun.

Early removal: Between 13.6 percent and 44.7 percent of the respondents reported removing the condom before intercourse was complete.

Completely unrolling the condom prior to application: Between 2.1 percent and 25.3 percent of people admitted to completely unrolling the condom before sliding it on.

No space at the tip: Failing to leave space for semen at the tip of the condom was reported by 24.3 to 45.7 percent of the respondents.

Failure to remove air: When looking back to their last sexual encounter, 48.1 percent of women and 41.6 percent of men reported that they didn’t squeeze the air from the tip before use.

Inside-out condoms: Between 4 percent and 30.4 percent of participants reported they began rolling the condom on inside out, but then flipped it over and continued its use. And that’s bad, since it can expose her to your pre-ejaculatory fluids, which can get her pregnant.

Failure to completely unroll the condom before use: When looking back to their last sexual encounter, 11.2 percent of women and 8.8 percent of men had began intercourse before the condom was unrolled all the way.

Exposure to sharp object: Between 2.1 percent and 11.2 percent of people had opened condom packets with sharp objects. The problem: If it’s sharp enough to rip the wrapper, it’s sharp enough to rip the condom.

Failure to check for damage: When removing the condom from the package, 82.7 percent of women and 74.5 percent of men reported that they fail to check for damage before use. What to look for: Make sure the wrapper isn’t worn down or ripped open, keep your eyes peeled for expired dates, and check for visible imperfections while unrolling.

No lubrication: Between 16 percent and 25.8 percent of people reported using condoms without lubrication. The trouble? If you’re having sex for an extended period of time, the condom is more likely to tear without lubrication.

Lubrication complications: Roughly 3.2 percent of women and 4.7 percent of men reported using an oil-based lube with a latex condom. That weakens the latex, which can make it prone to breakage.

Incorrect withdrawal: Nearly 31 percent of men and 27 percent of women reported that (post-sex) they failed to promptly and properly withdraw after ejaculation.

Reusing a condom: Between 1.4 percent and 3.3 percent of people reported reusing a condom at least twice during a sexual encounter. Gross.

Incorrect storage: Between 3.3 percent and 19.1 percent of people in the studies had stored their condoms in conditions that did not comply with the recommendations on the package. Avoid storing them in direct sunlight or your wallet—both can degrade the latex.

Not wearing one at all:: This wasn’t actually part of the study, but we should add that #15 is this: Not using one at all. According to the (most recent) National Survey of Sexual Health and Behavior, only 45 percent of men ages 18 to 24 used a condom with their last sexual partner. And as the age groups increased, the stats only got worse: Only 29.3 percent of men ages 25 to 34 used condoms and 21.3 percent of men between ages 35 and 44.

Kidnappers demand N500m ransom to free Pres. Jonathan's uncle

Abductors of Inengite Nitabai, the 70-year old uncle of President Goodluck Jonathan, have demanded a N500m ransom, Sahara Reporters report.

A security source said that the abductors threatened to kill him if the family fails to produce the money. The source also said the family had constituted a committee to evaluate the demand, establish negotiations with the abductors and facilitate his release.

He said the kidnappers had also warned against the involvement of security operatives in the matter.
"The kidnappers contacted the family four days after and demanded a whopping sum of N500m. It is believed that the family of the victim has begun negotiations with the hoodlums," he said.

Tension and panic set in when the kidnappers failed to establish any contact with the family of their victim three days after he was abducted.

That development was said to have rattled the Presidency, which reportedly ordered a massive deployment of security in Otuoke, the hometown of the Jonathans, and the Niger Delta creeks.
The gunmen abducted Nitabai on Sunday after collecting about N400,000 from his wife.

South African Immigration deporting Nigerians for flimsy excuses

For a while now the South African immigration have been deporting Nigerians for the flimsiest reasons. Starting from their airport, they deport you for allegedly carrying what they call 'fake' yellow card. Then sometimes they raid local hotels and even pick Nigerians up while they are going about their business. Today Friday Feb. 28th they deported eleven Nigerians for hotel reservation reasons. The ones staying at apartments too were deported because according to South African immigration, their names didn't appear on the apartment lease while clearly they were just guests. Someone I know was affected.

Why are they doing this? Our government needs to do something about this ASAP. This is not cool!

Man sues Macdonalds for $1.5million for giving him only one napkin

A man is suing Macdonalds for $1.5million for giving him only one napkin and refusing to give him another when he asked for it. Lol. The things you can sue people for in the US.

TMZ reports
McDonalds has made a new golden arch enemy - a California man is suing the company for $1.5million... because he says he only got one napkin with his meal. Webster Lucas claims he was stiffed on napkins at the Mickey D's in Pacoima, CA on January 29th -- after ordering a Quarter Pounder Deluxe - and when he went up to the counter to ask for more, he was rudely rebuffed by the manager ... who insisted he already got some. According to his lawsuit, Lucas, who is black, then retorted, "I should have went to eat at the Jack-in-the-Box because I didn't come here to argue over napkins. I came here to eat."That's when Lucas says things got racist -- claiming the manager (a Mexican-American) mumbled something about "you people."Lucas subsequently emailed the general manager to complain - insisting he couldn't work because of the "undue mental anguish" he was suffering as a result of the napkin debacle -- and says he was insultingly offered free burgers in return. Lucas wants to super size instead - $1.5 million.

Civil Rights Groups Protest in Lagos Against Boko Haram Killings, Missing $20b

Civil rights groups, activists and sympathizers gathered on February 28, 2014, Friday, to protest passive position of Federal Government on the top challenges Nigeria is facing these days.

The protesters, who were spotted in Yaba Metropolis, Lagos, blasted the presidency’s silence over mass killings of students in Yobe state, the abduction of 20 young teenage females in Borno State by notorious Boko Haram sect, and the missing $20 Billion.

The groups challenged FG to explain the whereabouts of the missing $20 billion unremitted oil proceeds, and protested what they called “the leadership failure” in the country, among other things.

Unlike protest in Abuja on February 27, 2014, where some of participants have been beaten, tear gassed and even arrested, today’s protest in Lagos was not interrupted by the police force.

A MUST READ: My Ex's Manhood Always In My Head - Married Woman Says

This is a life story of a wife and a mother, who has lost her sleep just after having contacted her ex; now she is in despair and needs your advice.

"I have been married for 3years with a child, love my husband, he is the kind of man any woman can hope for, spoils and pampers me like a guy asking a girl out for the first time (we are happy).

"But I think I love my ex more, we broke up because he lies too much to me and any guy that lies to you is not serious or doesn't love you (my theory), but we remained friends, the kind of friend that you can tell anything no matter how weird. We were chatting about 2 days ago and we got emotional that he sent me a picture of his penis and I almost jumped out of my skin.

Since then I have not been able to sleep, work or do anything without seeing that image and longing for it, I so much want to be with him but I am married. What should I do? Please don't insult me, I need honest answer cause I can't talk to anybody about it."

Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye Clocks 72

The General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, also known as Daddy G.O., will add +1 on March 2, 2014, Sunday.

The man of God, who has millions of followers, will allegedly have quite a humble celebration. The Church has not announced any big plans in this regard.

Enoch Adeboye was born on March 2, 1942, in a simple family in the village of Ifewara, Osun State. The Pastor often humorously says that his family was so poor that even the poor people called them poor.
He unashamedly tells his congregation that he had never owned shoes until he turned 18. But he was gifted with such intangibles as focus, consistency, diligence, ambition, a brilliant mind and a determination to succeed in life.

In 1956 Enoch Adeboye was admitted into Ilesha Grammar School, Ilesha, Osun State and as a youth, he discovered a passion for books, and an aptitude for science and in particular the field of Mathematics. This led to an academic journey in the field of Mathematics against incredible odds including but not limited to finances, the Nigerian Civil War and academic politics.

Adeboye had obtained not only a Bachelors (BSc.) degree in Mathematics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1967, but also a Masters (MSc.) Degree in Hydrodynamics and a Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Applied Mathematics, both from the University of Lagos in 1969 and 1975 respectively.

One of the motivations for these academic achievements was Enoch Adeboye’s passionate desire to become the youngest Vice Chancellor of any one of the frontline universities in Nigeria. It did seem that his academic ambition would be realised as his academic career flourished. However, this was not to be as a greater career awaited him in the service of the Lord. In 1967 Enoch Adeboye got married to his beloved wife Foluke Adenike Adeboye.

In 1981, Adeboye was appointed the RCCG General Overseer, taking over from the founder, Pa Akindayomi, who died the previous year.

With thousands of worshippers flocking the RCCG on daily basis, the present auditorium being occupied by the Church at the Redemption Ground, which is three kilometres long and one kilometre wide, is no longer able to contain the large number of followers.

Last year, Adeboye unveiled plan by the Church to construct one of the biggest auditoriums in the world, saying that the new auditorium would be three square kilometres. The auditorium is expected to be completed before the Church’s 2014 convention in August.

REVEALED: Why Nigeria Has More Arms Than Food

The House of Representatives yesterday in Abuja raised an alarm on the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the country, saying that Nigeria now has more weapons than food.

The chairman, House of Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Nnenna Ukaeje, made this comment while speaking with the Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) led by its chairman, Ambassador Emmanuel Imohe.

Imohe had paid her a courtesy visit primarily to seek partnership with the House Committee on the need to accelerate the passage of a draft Bill before the House which seeks to transform the committee into a commission.

Speaking on the Bill, Ukeje said that her sponsorship of it was borne out of the desire to ensure that an effective structure exists in Nigeria for tackling the problems posed by the proliferation of illegal Small Arms and Light Weapons, as mandated by the ECOWAS Convention on Small Arms and Light Weapons, which advocates a commission instead of committee.

The parliamentarian expressed deep concern that the presence of these small arms and light weapons in wrong hands portends a danger to the coming general election and called on the authorities to arrest the situation.

BREAKING NEWS: Governor Rotimi Amaechi Accused Of Kidnapping

The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has accused the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, of masterminding the kidnap of the Chairman of the party in Port Harcourt Local Government Area, Mr. Ikechi Chinda, a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Chinyere Igwe and Mr. Allwell Ihunda.

The state Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Felix Obuah, said the three members of the party were abducted by unidentified gunmen at about 8pm on Wednesday around Eagle Island axis of Port Harcourt.

Obuah, who spoke with newsmen at the state PDP secretariat on Thursday, alleged that Amaechi and the All Progressives Congress-led government were responsible for the kidnap of the party members.
He expressed surprise that the governor was playing politics with the security of lives and property and branding his political opponents his worst enemies.

Obuah said, “After a very careful examination of the circumstances surrounding the abduction of our party leaders, the party believes that the abduction was masterminded by Amaechi and the APC-led government in the state.
In her response, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, described the PDP as insensitive for playing politics with the lives of their members.
Semenitari said the state government condemned the abduction of three members of the PDP and appealed to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, to ensure the release of the victims and arrest of those behind the act.

Reacting to the abduction of the three PDP members, the state Commissioner of Police said the State Police Command was aware of the incident and was working round the clock to ensure the release of the victims and arrest of those behind the act.

The life of a 23-year-old student of the Federal Polytechnic in Offa, Kwara State, Oladotun Alade, has been cut short by an accident involving a truck and a Volkswagen saloon car in Okuku, Osun State.

One of the eyewitnesses said that the accident occurred when the plank-carrying truck was overtaking the five-seater car.
“As the truck was trying to overtake the car, the planks got detached from it and fell on the car. The three passengers sitting at the back of the car died instantly,” the eyewitness said.

It was learnt that Alade, who was an ND 1 Civil Engineering student, was among the passengers sitting at the back.
It was learnt that the driver and the passenger sitting in the front survived the accident.

Alade’s relative, Adeyemi Oyeleke, said, “He was travelling to the school to submit an assignment since the polytechnic has resumed. His friends had earlier informed him that lectures had commenced. He had planned to travel next week Monday, but his mates called him that one of their lecturers demanded that an assignment he gave them be submitted.

“He was a friendly guy and always smiling. He was the only son and the second child of the family.”
The Osun Police Public Relations Officer, Sade Odoro when contacted said she had not heard of the accident, but promised to call the DPO of the Okuku Division.

SAD STORY: SEE What Happened To This Couple On Their Wedding Day, With Gown On The Bride (PHOTO)

* The late Kali
Georgia man, Ryan Quinton, has been charged with vehicular homicide following the death of his bride hours after their wedding reception.

The deadly crash happened in late December in Cherokee County, about 30 miles northwest of Atlanta.

The Georgia State Patrol issued a warrant for the arrest of Ryan Quinton earlier this week.

Crime lab results show his blood alcohol level on Dec. 29, the night of the crash, was .114. The legal limit in Georgia is .08.

Troopers say the deceased bride, Kali Quniton, and her husband Ryan had just left their wedding reception at the nearby Wheeler House when their sports car veered off the road and rolled down a steep embankment, trapping Kali underneath.

Chris Thomas witnessed the horrific crash.

Thomas said he saw Quinton stumbling along the side of the road and called 911.

"He was shaken up. He wasn't making a whole lot of sense. He was hysterical," Thomas said.

Thomas said the hardest part for him was seeing the wedding party show up and learning what happened.

"They still had their bridesmaid's gowns on and they were all dressed up for a party," Thomas said.

Cherokee County deputies said Quinton turned himself in Wednesday morning, nearly two months after the crash.

Investigators told said he initially told them he swerved to avoid a dog on the road. They have charged him with DUI, vehicular homicide and other charges.

Ryan Quinton is originally from Jasper, Ga. A judge released Quinton on $25,000 bond Wednesday night.
