Police arrest First Class honors graduate, others over internet fraud

The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) have arrested a 6-man internet fraud syndicate that includes a First Class honor graduate who specialize in designing the organisation’s websites and using same to defraud unsuspecting job seekers, this is according to a report on the Nigerian police website.

A petition dated 22nd August 2013, received from OPEC FUND for International Development alleged that a website designed as “OFID Scholarship Website” with OFID name and logo has been used to defraud innocent Nigerian applicants.  That in the website, applicants were required to pay N2,500.00 as an application fee and over 2,000 applicants responded and paid the fees through the First Bank Account Number 2020874607 and Access Bank Account Number 0056941009 with the name OFID WSAS NG.  The petitioner stated further that it was one of the victims that contacted OFID via facebook, accusing OFID of being complicit in the fraud.

Alariwo Blasts Police PRO

Popular musician, Alariwo of Africa has blasted the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Ilobanefor, for saying the police were not aware of his shooting.

Earlier last week, Alariwo took to his Facebook page to inform his fans and friends that he was attacked and shot by armed robbers in Ibadan. But the police spokesperson said the singer should have reported the incident to the police rather than going to the social media.

And now, a very pissed off Alariwo has sent in his reply. Punch reports Alariwo said he couldn’t have gone to the police to make a formal report because he was rushed to the hospital in order to be operated on.

“How do you expect me to go and report to the police again when I was still in the hospital and was being operated on? It was my manager that wrote on my Facebook page that I was shot and was okay. Did the PRO expect me to stand from the hospital bed to go and lay complaints?”

Everyone is Crazy in Lagos - Etcetera

Few weeks ago, I got a call from a friend asking me out for a drink, but I was already at the Lagos airport. “I’m not going to be around for the next few days,” I told him. “I’m going to Abuja.” His immediate reaction was – “Why? What’s wrong? Do you want to bore yourself to death?”

That’s the typical response I get whenever I tell someone I am travelling to Abuja. Abuja is a beautiful city with a terrible reputation for boredom. I have heard people in other cities speak of Lagos as a noisy, dirty and dangerous city filled with crazy people. In truth, everyone in Lagos is crazy. What else do you expect in a state crammed with 22 million people?

Husband batters wife's face over piece of fish in Lagos (Photo)

A 34 year old woman, Mrs. Fatima Bankole, was battered by her husband, Alhaji Kamoru Bankole, for taking piece of fish from the pot to break her fast.

The victim is first of three wives of Alhaji Kamoru, at residing at Hasan Close, Alasia, Ijanikin in Lagos State. The bruising attack happened on the 16th of July, when the third wife reported to their husband that their senior wife took fish from the soup to break her fast. The husband, according to witnesses, did not listen to her excuse before attacking her.

According to Sahara reporters ,the victim, Mrs. Fatima Bankole, their husband had always physically abused her, but the incidence of July 16th was more brutal.

OMG: River In China Mysteriously Turns Bloody Red Overnight(Photos)

A waterway in eastern China has mysteriously turned a blood red color.

Residents in Zhejiang province said the river looked normal at 5 a.m. Beijing time on Thursday morning. Within an hour, the entire river turned crimson. Residents also said a strange smell wafted through the air.

Why Abdulmutallab failed to blow up our plane – US

The United States has said that the Nigerian terrorist, Umar Abdulmutallab, failed to successfully carry out a bomb attack in 2009 because the explosives he was wired with became ‘degraded’ after he wore the same pair of underpants for two weeks.

Abdulmutallab had, at the age of 23, confessed to and convicted of attempting to detonate plastic explosives hidden in his underwear while aboard a Northwest Airlines Flight 253, en route from Amsterdam to Michigan, US on December 25, 2009.

However, United States officials explained that the bomb failed to detonate aboard the flight, which was carrying nearly 300 people, but caused a brief fire that caused burns to his groin.

Richard Mofe-Damijo to be Honoured with “Dike Oha na Nollywood” Chieftaincy Title

Richard Mofe-Damijo – RMD is set to be honoured with a chieftaincy title.

The veteran Nollywood actor and Delta State Commissioner for Arts and Culture will be given the title of “Dike Oha na Nollywood” during the three-day Nollywood Igbo Film Festival.

The 4th edition of the film festival will take place in Asaba, Delta from  August 27th to August 30th. The title will be bestowed upon him on day 1.

The founder of the festival Nze Harris Chuma said RMD is being honoured for his contributions to Nollywood.

Kaduna Bomb Blast Suspect Disguised as Woman Undressed by Military

 A man suspected to be connected with the explosion targeted at General Buhari on Wednesday in Kaduna, is currently being held by troops.

The young man apprehended by military patrol team that searched the area after the explosion had disguised as a woman. He was clad in female garb to exude femininity with a brazier affixed to his chest.

“No Survivors in Air Algerie Crash” – French President

French President, Francois Hollande, announced today, Friday July 25th, that there are no survivors in the crash of the Air Algerie flight, which disappeared from the radar, and then crashed en route to Algiers from Burkina Faso.

There were 110 passengers and six crew members on board.

Ebola Victim in Sierra Leone Escapes from Hospital

An individual in Sierra Leone who is said to be the first resident to have been infected with Ebola Virus in the country, is reportedly  on the run.

The woman’s family “forcibly removed” her from a Freetown hospital after she was diagnosed with the deadly disease, Reuters reports.

Radio stations in Freetown broadcast the following appeal today, urging the public to help in efforts to track down the patient:

“Saudatu Koroma of 25 Old Railway Line, Brima Lane, Wellington…she is a positive case and her being out there is a risk to all. We need the public to help us locate her.”

9 year old boy falls and dies in soakaway in Lagos(Photo)

There was anger on Thursday morning on the Apata Street, Somolu area of Lagos after a nine-year-old child, identified as Riliwan, fell into a soakaway and died.Riliwan, a primary six pupil of a primary school in the area, was to attend his graduation ceremony that morning where he was billed to be given prizes for coming first in his class, when tragedy struck.

According to Punch,a resident said his parents, who were devout Muslims, had sent him to pour away a bowl of dirty water they had rinsed their hands in after eating Sahur (Ramadan pre-dawn meal), when he fell into the pit.The resident, who did not want his name mentioned, said,

“The incident happened around 4am. There was no power supply. His parents had finished eating the early morning meal, preparatory to the fasting, when they asked him to empty a bowl of dirty water inside the gutter.As he went out in the dark, he stepped on a covering on the soakaway, which gave way.”

Patrick Sawyer,Liberian infected with Ebola Virus in Lagos is reported dead

The first known carrier of the deadly Ebola virus in Nigeria,Mr Patrick Sawyer is reported to have died. 40 year old Mr Sawyer, a WASH consultant at the Ministry of Finance, Liberia had been quarantined since falling ill after arriving in Lagos for a conference last Sunday.

According to Front page Africa, A Liberian government official, speaking on condition of anonymity said the news of Sawyer's death was relayed to Liberia by the Nigerian embassy, early Friday morning.
