Ban on Hijab in Lagos: Court fixes September 26 for judgment

 Months after the use of Hijab by female students was banned in all public primary and secondary schools in Lagos State, a Lagos High Court in Ikeja has fixed September 26 to deliver judgment in a suit filed by the Muslim Student Association of Nigeria against the Lagos State Government.

Chibok Girls: Seven Parents Die of Trauma

81 days after the abduction of their children, seven parents of the abducted female pupils of the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, have died of trauma.

The National Chairman of the Chibok community under the Kibaku Area Development Association, Dr. Pogu Bitrus, disclosed this on Friday at a news conference in Abuja. Adding that the Boko Haram sect had also killed 229 people in 15 attacks on the Chibok community. The community asked the Federal Government to negotiate with the terrorist sect for the release of the 219 Chibok school girls abducted by the group.

First of all, I am not a church goer. I am a Buddhist, though I was born into the Catholic doctrine. And part of my reason for not going to church is the fact that I have been to a lot of churches. For the first 20 years of my life, I was a mass servant. I was an ‘altar boy’ because my father was a disciplinarian. If you don’t go to morning mass, you are bound to be in trouble.
I did all that for 20 years, and that’s the kind of background I was coming from. But things have changed regarding the mode of worship in most churches. They spend more time than necessary. Why should we be praying for two to three hours non-stop? I have other things to do.

'BRT bus did not kill any soldier' - LAGBUS official explains what really happened

LAGBUS Asset Management Limited, operators of BRT buses have denied that one of their buses killed a soldier. Soldiers went on a rampage yesterday around the Palmgrove area of Lagos, stopping BRT buses, asking passengers to get down, beating the drivers, destroying the buses before eventually setting them on fire. The damage yesterday is said to be worth over N100million.

But speaking about it, a LAGBUS official said they had nothing to do with it, explaining that they only found a corpse in their bus and went to report it to the police;

"By 10 p.m. last night, one of our buses broke down at Onipanu; by 11 p.m., a rescue team with a van went to the scene to tow the bus. Governor Fashola condemns military rampage in Lagos

 Speaking with Channels TV , Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola described yesterday's action by the Nigerian Army as very disappointing, stating that they are public servants paid with tax payers money, so shouldn't behave in such a manner. He however said he's waiting for a formal report to know what really transpired.

"I spoke with the Brigadier General who said he was managing and controlling the situation. Nothing I have yet is verified. I am waiting for a formal report before we then can ventilate a position. There is allegation that somebody who was not supposed to be on the BRT route was on the BRT route. As far as I know if something happens to you while you are conducting an unlawful act, it's a criminal offense in its own sense. Its really disappointing to put it mildly that public servants, and that is what soldiers are, paid with tax payers money will act in a manner that is being suggested here, and I say this being suggested because I am waiting for official report to let me know really who played what role, what happened, whether or not even the brigade commander has been able to identify the people who were involved...but if it turns out to be true, it would be a very very irresponsible conduct to put it very mildly" he said.

Wickedness: Man Dumps ‘Crippled’ Nephew On Refuse Heap, Warns Neighbors Not To Help Him

A 25- year old physically challenged man identified as Danjuma has been allegedly dumped on a refuse heap by his uncle apparently to die. Danjuma is the only child of his deceased mother and no family member could locate his father’s whereabouts.

It was gathered that the mother, a former staff of Nigeria Telecommunication, left money for his well being but family members kept it to themselves.
The refuse heap where Danjuma was dumped is high and our reporter had to climb it to get his photograph.

Edo State Govt. cancels assessment test for teachers, proposed training and re-training

Teachers in Edo State are to leave a sigh of relief as Edo State Government has decided to cancel the competency text for teachers and replaced it with training and re-training programmes.

The governor who was speaking after a meeting with the Organized Labour in Edo State also added that the relativity will be paid to teachers while the nine hundred and thirty six teachers dismissed last year are also to be re-instated.

Confab endorses creation of Ijebu, Aba, 17 other states

The National Conference  has  endorsed the recommendation for additional states for the South-East.
The delegates also approved the creation of 17 new states nation-wide.

The National Judicial Institute (NJI) venue of the conference erupted in celebration. Soon yesterday, after they voted in favour of the recommendation of the Committee on Political Restructuring and Forms of Government, delegates left their seats and exchanged pleasantries.

For once, delegates from the other five geo-political zones joined their South-East counterparts in celebrating what many described as a landmark victory for the Igbos. Many delegates repeatedly exclaimed: “History has been made. Today, justice has been served. We have won. It’s a new day for us.”

Some of the states recommended include Adada, Aba, Savannah, Njaba-Anim, Gurara, Ogoja, Etiti, Anioma, New Oyo, Ijebu and Orashi.

Photo: Soldiers on rampage in Palmgrove, beats up security may,damage and set BRT buses on fire on Ikorodu Road

 Some soldiers are currently causing chaos in the Palmgroove area of Lagos. An eye-witness said trouble started when a BRT bus hit a soldier on a bike. Nobody knows if the soldier died (though there are indications that he may have been crushed to death) but other soldiers immediately arrived the scene and started stopping all BRT buses on Ikorodu road beating drivers and sending passengers out. Beating even passers-by who move too close to them or take pictures.

According the eye-witness who sent in the photos, two civilians were allegedly beaten up and a guy who was taking pictures was beaten and his phone smashed on the express road.

Then the soldiers allegedly started vandalizing the buses! According to the source, some soldiers left the express and took big sticks from women cooking by the roadside to break the windows of the buses. RCCG Pastor Shot Dead By Soldiers In Delta

A pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God has been shot dead by soldiers, while about three others were injured at Opuraja community in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State,Newsmen reports.

Quoting a security source, the news platform said the soldiers, led by a Captain, stormed the quiet community in two Hilux vans to conduct an investigation, but were allegedly mobbed by villagers, who misconstrued their motive, as they took away vigilante leader and community chairman.
