Teenagers forced into pregnancy – Police Commissioner

Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Musa Katsina, speaks on the challenges of stemming crime in the state which became notorious for baby factories, child trafficking, kidnapping, among other vices.
In the case of Madam 1,000, what we saw could shatter the strongest of hearts. It was a case of man’s inhumanity to man! This type of inhumanity is special in the sense that the victims of the inhumanity are innocent babies, totally defenceless human beings. Their crime is simple: they happen to find themselves in a world or in the midst of gluttonous vultures, who understand nothing but quick money or wealth.
As we went beyond the beautiful place they called Madam 1,000 Amaefula Babies Home, we saw a dungeon! Children, teenagers forced into pregnancy were kept in captivity. They were rendered completely incommunicado. Their telephone handsets and other means of communication were taken away from them. They were kept in unventilated rooms, subjected to all manner of forced labour and perpetual servitude.

Why women in entertainment find it difficult to get married - Uti Nwachukwu

During a discussion with Dolapo Oni, Bolanle Olukanni and Michelle Dede on the Boy & Girl Talk Marriage section on Moments With Mo show, Big Brother star Uti Nwachukwu said the reason why he and most men can't marry women in the Nigerian entertainment industry is because the women sleep around with big men and they know it.

"Most celebrity women in the entertainment industry have had to sleep with one big man or the other to have the comfortable life they live. Its common knowledge".

He said whenever he hangs out with his friends and they talk about getting married to actresses, that most times the men say never because they've met these actresses in private places with these big men.

Man accuses Chinese boss of brutality in Ogun state

According to a report by Punch, a 40 year old man is accusing his Chinese boss and his cousin of brutalizing him. Full report below...
A newly hired employee of a Chinese firm based in the Sagamu area of Ogun State has accused his Chinese boss, Mike Jackson, of brutality.
The victim, Adeleke Owolabi, told Punch Metro that Mike and his cousin, Tony Jackson, brutalised him during an argument in Mike’s office.
Owolabi said he had just been hired by Mike to be a marketer in the northern part of the country.
The 40-year-old victim said, “I have been self-employed for a long time and I met Mike sometime last year. He offered me a marketing job in his company and asked me to resume in the first week of January.

"He produces PVC, a roofing material, and said he wanted to expand to the north and since I needed the job, I accepted. I went on January 6, but he told me to return the following day. However, I could not make it because I travelled. On January 8, I returned and after discussions, he said I should go get a sack in which I could put the PVC into.

“I bought a Ghana-must-go bag of N500 with my own money and one of his former marketers showed me how to package them. I loaded 200 pieces into the sack and I was set for my travel to the north. But Mike said I should proceed to the production section to learn more about the product.”

The graduate of Mass Communications from Olabisi Onabanjo University said when it was about 4pm, he told Mike that he wanted to leave so that he could arrive Kano on time, but an argument ensued.

He said Mike became violent and descended on him.

Owolabi said, “After pleading with Mike, he said I should remove the PVC from the bag and return the bag. As I was doing this, Mike kicked me in my private part. I asked him why he was being wicked to me since he was the one who offered me the job.

“He said I was not handling the PVC properly and they could break. He then slapped me, so I held his shirt in order to stop him, but his cousin, Tony, smashed a bottle on my head and beat me up until I fainted.”

The father of two said when he woke up, he was covered in blood. He said a lady took him to the Makun Police Division from where he was referred to Idera Hospital for treatment.

He alleged that the Chinese men refused to visit him at the hospital and did not offer any apology.
He said the police refused to press charges against the Chinese men.

“The police said since Mike and Tony were foreigners, a lot of things would be involved. I then reported the matter to a human rights organisation and the case was taken to the Nigerian Immigration Service, Ogun State Command. Mike and his cousin came on January 17, and that was the first time they apologised to me and promised to help me secure a Chinese visa,” Owolabi said.

Owolabi said he had been having medical challenges since the incident occurred.
“These days, I find it hard to sleep at night. The doctor said I should do a brain CT and spinal cord     X- Ray and it costs about N45, 000,” he said.
He  urged the government to ensure that Nigerians were not maltreated in their respective places of work.
Attempts to contact Mike on the telephone proved abortive as he did not answer calls made to his telephone and also did not respond to a text message sent to the phone.

Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident, said the case would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Adejobi said, “The matter was reported at the police station and the lawyers of both parties decided to have settlement talks. However, the aggrieved party was not satisfied as a human rights organisation came to register a complaint. The matter is being transferred to SCID, Eleweran.”

Update: Police detain Chinese for assaulting employee in Ogun

The State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Ogun State, has detained two Chinese nationals, Mike Jackson and Tony Jackson, for allegedly brutalising Adeleke Owolabi, an employee of their company, Jivan Plastic Company.

Owolabi had said the police refused to arrest the Chinese men due to their status as foreigners.
However, it was learnt that after PUNCH Metro’s publication, the police immediately stormed the PVC manufacturing company in Sagamu and whisked the suspects away.

It was learnt that the suspects apologised to Owolabi, who was also at the SCID to write a statement.
Owolabi said, “Yes, the Chinese men have been detained at the SCID and I am satisfied with the action of the police so far. I am happy that the media are helping to ensure that the matter is not swept under the carpet.

“I am not after money but I just don’t want a situation whereby Nigerians are treated badly by foreigners in their own land.”
It was learnt that the suspects would remain in police custody until the completion of investigation.

Dear Nigerian internet users, have y'all seen the proposed Cyber Crime bill?

How many of you internet users in Nigeria have seen the proposed Cyber-Crime bill which is before the House of Reps? For insulting someone online, you can get a 5year jail term. Like, for real? I don't understand why this government is not focusing on important things. They are now trying to clip the wings of news sites, blogs, readers/commenters and users of social media? They better not pass this bill into law. What about freedom of speech and expression? Find it below, culled from Punch...
For using profane language on other people or pelting them with insults or abusive words on social networking sites, Internet users in Nigeria risk a jail term that ranges between 12 months and five years.
Section 18 sub-section 1 of the Cyber-Crime Bill 2013, which is pending before the House of Representatives, expressly states that anybody who “insults publicly, through a computer system or network” commits an offence and will be liable on conviction to imprisonment “for a term of not less than five years or to a fine of not less than N10m or to both fine and imprisonment.” Continue...it gets more interesting
Also, the bill prescribes a jail term of five years for anyone who circulates or makes any racist and xenophobic material available online.

Cyber-criminals, who hide under the anonymity of the Internet to bully, harass other users of online platforms also risk jail terms when the law comes into full force. .
Section 15 of the bill, which deals with issues of cyber-stalking, prescribes a jail term of 12 months for anyone found guilty of posting messages deemed “grossly offensive, indecent, obscene” or messages aimed at “causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety” to another online user.

Besides, anyone who bullies, threatens or harasses another person, through “information and communication technologies” or posts messages online that contains “threats to kidnap or injure” another person will be jailed five years or pay a fine of N15m or both.

According to the bill, Internet service providers will be required to keep all traffic data and subscriber information for the purpose of prosecuting those suspected of committing cyber-crimes.
The service providers are expected to provide necessary assistance towards the identification, apprehension and prosecution of offenders, failure of which makes them liable to fines and or jail terms.

Part V, Section four of the bill prescribes the Office of the National Security Adviser as the co-coordinating body for all security and enforcement agencies when the bill becomes law.

One of the high points of the law is the prescription of death sentence for anyone who commits an offence against what it calls “critical national information infrastructure” which results in death.

Happy New Month, People!!

Wishing you all more blessings, more miracles and the very best this month of love and always.

Policeman sentenced to death by hanging for killing 20yr old man

Justice has finally come the way of the family of slain Emmanuel Victor (pictured above), a 20 year old young man who was killed in front of his mother by a trigger-happy Policeman, Mathew Egheghe, two years ago in Yenogoa, Bayelsa state.

Victor was shot dead after he confronted a group of policemen who were trying to extort money from motorists as he was coming back from church. Angered by his effrontery to question their action, Policeman Egheghe moved close to Victor and shot him at close range.

Named after gang rape victim Nirbhaya, the Nirbheek is a small, lightweight revolver being marketed to Indian women.Gun for Women Designed as Defense Against Rape

The brutal gang rape of a young woman on a public bus in Delhi in December 2012 — in which six men raped and beat her so severely that she died — enraged the Indian public, inspired mass protests across the country and catapulted the problem of violence against Indian women into the international spotlight.
One year and an updated rape law later, a state-run company is marketing a solution to the harassment Indian women have said they face on a daily basis — a small, lightweight firearm billed as “India’s first gun for women.”

The Nirbheek is a .32-caliber handgun made of titanium alloy.
Weighing in at just over a pound, it’s the smallest revolver made in India, and “ideal to fit a purse or a small hand bag,” according to the Times of India newspaper, which first reported the story.

WEIRD: President Obama's Former Drug Dealer Beaten To Death By Gay Lover

A marijuana dealer who served President Barack Obama during his high school years was beaten to death by his gay lover.
Although the murder was committed several years ago, the details were revealed this week.
The dealer Raymond Boyer was known to Obama and his 'Choom Gang' as 'Gay Ray', and used to sell the President and his friends weed. The 37-year-old was beaten to death with a hammer seven years ago by his lover Andrew Devere, a prostitute.
Devere gave a long list of reasons for the murder, including that Boyer, who was an unemployed chef and a surfer, had put him down, made him beg for drugs, and regularly broke wind in his face.
After serving as the President-to-be's dealer, Boyer lost his job as the manager of a pizzeria and lived on welfare. Devere was jailed for life for the murder, but was released in 2007.
US President Barack Obama has never denied taking marijuana in his youth, and recently said he thought marijuana was no worse than alcohol.

BOKO HARAM: 2,000 People Turned Into Refugees in Nigeria

More than 2,000 people were forced from their homes after a market attack in northeast Nigeria blamed on Boko Haram militants that killed at least 52, a relief agency said Thursday.

Boko Haram church attack

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the region said 4,000 people were “affected” by Sunday’s attack in Kawuri village, Borno state, without giving further detail.
NEMA spokesman Abdulkadir Ibrahim said that in addition “over 2,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) are camped in” a college and primary school in Konduga district.

“Security arrangements are being made to convey relief materials like food, beddings and basic needs to cushion the effects of the displacement of the IDPs,” he added in a statement.
The attack, at about 5:00 pm (1600 GMT), saw heavily armed gunmen disguised as traders storm the village, which is 37 kilometres from the state capital, Maiduguri.

Witnesses said the gunmen arrived in four-wheel-drive vehicles and opened fire with machine guns before setting off homemade bombs that destroyed houses and other property.
Borno state police told AFP on Tuesday that 52 people had died, although local officials and the leader of the civilian vigilante group in the area said they had buried 85.

The attack came on the same day that at least 26 people were killed when suspected Boko Haram gunmen fired on worshippers during a service at a Roman Catholic church in neighbouring Adamawa state.
Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states were placed under emergency rule in May last year to try to end the insurgency, which has claimed thousands of lives since 2009.
Attacks have continued, most of them in rural areas of Borno, which borders Cameroon and Chad to the northeast and east, and Niger to the north.

The United Nations said last Friday that 4,000 people had fled northeast Nigeria to Cameroon and 1,500 to Niger since mid-January, both as a result of the insurgency and the military response to it.
More than 12,400 Nigerians are currently in Cameroon; 8,000 have fled to Niger with 30,000 Niger nationals who had been living in Nigeria.

PHOTOS: See What Top TV Personality Has To Say About Clocking 60 + Check Out Her Gorgeous Cake

TV personality Oprah Winfrey turned 60 yesterday, and to celebrate, she poured her emotions and thoughts into a very heartfelt open letter.

Read letter below;

"Sixty. I'm turning 60! I'm so glad I've lived long enough to say those words and celebrate their meaning. I'm turning 60. I'm alive. Healthy. Strong.
"I'm turning 60, and—please don't take offense—I no longer have to be concerned about what anyone thinks of me! (You know, the old Am I doing it right? Am I saying it right? Am I being what or who I'm "supposed" to be?) I'm turning 60, and I've earned the right to be just as I am. I'm more secure in being myself than I've ever been.
"I am in awe of the way my journey here on earth continues to unfold. My life has been marked by miracles for as long as I can recall -- and even before. (My entire existence is the result of a onetime frolic under an oak tree.) My early days speaking in a Mississippi Methodist church -- Baptist leanings, shoutin', and Holy Ghost included -- prepared me for a future of speaking in a public arena I could never have imagined.
"And now, at 60, I simply want to share what I've been given. I want to continue to encourage as many people as I can to open their hearts to life, because if I know anything for sure, it's that opening my own heart is what has brought me my greatest success and joy.
"My highest achievement: never shutting my heart down. Even in my darkest moments -- through sexual abuse, a pregnancy at 14, lies and betrayals -- I remained faithful, hopeful, and open to seeing the best in people, regardless of whether they were showing me their worst.
"I stayed open to believing that no matter how hard the climb, there is always a way to let in a sliver of light to illuminate the path forward. We go through life discovering the truth about who we are and determining who has earned the right to share the personal space within our heart.
"This I also know for sure: God -- however you define or refer to Him, Her, or It -- is for us. The forces of nature are for us, offering us life in abundance. We humans narrow what is an open field of wonder and majesty to the myopic reality of our day-to-day experiences. But there is extraordinary in the ordinary. Every day and every breath is magic -- if we can only see it for what it is.
"Some days the awareness of the sanctity and sacredness of life brings me to my knees with gratitude. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that the little girl from Mississippi who grew up holding her nose in an outhouse now flies on her own plane -- my own plane! -- to Africa to help girls who grew up like her. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound!

I approach this milestone, the landmark of 60, with humility, supreme thanksgiving, and joy. Knowing for sure grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.

FOR REAL! New Course On Beyonce Introduced At University

Rutgers University is offering a course on Beyoncé at the school’s Department of Women’s and Gender Studies.

The class, which is called “Feminist Perspectives: Politicizing Beyoncé,” is being offered during the Spring semester at the college.
Queen Bey 101 is taught by PhD candidate Kevin Allred, who explained to the Rutgers Today newspaper exactly what students can expect from the class.

“This isn’t a course about Beyoncé’s political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama’s inauguration weekend. Rather, the performer’s music and career are used as lenses to explore American race, gender and sexual politics.”
Allred pairs the lesson plans with the “Drunk in Love” songstress’ music videos and lyrics - he’s got plenty of material to choose from now.

But it’s not all Bey all the time. He also includes writing from artists and pioneers in the black feminist movement like Sojourner Truth and Alice Walker.

And according to Allred, Beyoncé’s class will be much more than a glossed-over run-through of her career.
“It’s important to shift students away from simply being consumers of media toward thinking more critically about what they’re engaging on a regular basis.”

And for those fans of Bey’s other half, they can enroll in the Georgetown University course dubbed, “The Sociology of Hip-Hop: Jay Z.”

I am at my wits end and the more I think about it, the more I realise I need someone to talk to about it and get a solution. It's a story of almost 10 years. Please, take your time and read. Thank you all:

It all began in 2002 when I gained employment in an organization. And, in the course of duty, I got very close to a guy named Mike. I later got to know we lived in the same area and since he had a car, he was always taking me home.
In 2003, we still shared the closeness and I was beginning to get fond of him. I lost one of my parents and he attended the funeral alongside most of my ogas. It was after the burial he told me he loved me and would want to have a relationship with me. I asked him if he was single and he said yes...
I visited his home one day and saw some greeting cards from a certain Nike and when I asked, he said she was his ex. I asked him why he didn't get rid of the cards and he said he just didn't think it was necessary.

On a Sunday morning, I intentionally visited his home cos I knew he would be in church. I interviewed two of his neighbours and they told me he was indeed single. They said he used to have a lady but it's been ages since they saw her and when they asked him, he said they've broken up. I was happy, thanked them and left.

We started a relationship in March and I was happy cos I already had feelings for him. After three months, he came to visit my mum and told her of his intentions to marry me. My mum said no wahala and gave him her blessings. I had already told her about him and she knew I was happy with him.

Imagine my surprise when I received a call from a woman in July and she said she wanted to speak with my guy. I asked who she was and she said she was his sister who just came in from Calabar. I was happy and told her I was yet to get to the office, but I will let him know once I arrive the office. I got to the office and excitedly told Mike his sister called me. He was surprised and asked to see the number. When he did, he said, but this is Nike's number (his ex). I said, really? I called the number again and she said I should give Mike the phone. I handed the phone to him and he shouted, why did you call this number?

I went to my cubicle and my phone rang again. Nike told me, don't think you have found a husband, Mike is my fiancee and in fact, I am 7 months pregnant for him. I felt as if my world would collapse. I couldn't concentrate and when it was time for us to go home, I told him what Nike said. He said it wasn't true and I told him, true or not, I am going to your house this night. He didn't want me to follow him home, but I was adamant.

We got to his house and I saw a heavily pregnant woman. Immediately he barged into his house, he started beating her. He beat her and rained blows on her tummy. I'm sure if that pregnancy wasn't heavy, she would have lost the pregnancy. After beating her, the woman pounced on me and tore my shirt to shreds. She started shouting, ha Mike, ma ba ti e je, ma wa ti e kan (Mike, I will destroy you).

She told me - You, you want to come and reap where you didn't sow? When he was living in a room, I was with him and now that he lives in a room and a parlour, I want to enjoy abi? In my mind I thought, so room and parlour na enjoyment shey?

After the drama, I couldn't go home that night cos it was too late. First thing in the morning, they started fighting again and I had to jejely leave for my house. I got home and my mum wondered why my shirt was torn. I lied to her cos I didn't want her to worry.

The third day after the incident, Nike stormed my office, shouting, where is that husband snatcher? Where is Dupe? Husband snatcher oshi? Ashawo, prostitute? Before I knew it, a crowd had gathered and they had to ask her what her problem was. She told them she was Mike's fiancee and I am dragging him with her.

My ogas had to tell her to go home and settle with her fiancee and stop disgracing herself in public.

Later in the day, they called Mike and me into the conference room and asked questions. Right before my eyes, Mike told my ogas I knew he had a fiancee and he told me and I insisted I wasn't bothered, that I would be the second wife. I didn't know when I started crying cos I never believed he could lie against me. He also told them I was always enticing him with gifts and money and that was why he decided to date me. I opened my mouth and couldn't utter a word. I just started crying. My ogas who were women shouted at me to stop crying and defend myself. I told my ogas I had nothing to say, but one thing I know is that even if it takes ten years, we are all going to sit down again and Mike would confess he lied against me. With that, I stood up and walked out of the room.

When I arrived home that night, I ate my dinner and when it was 12 midnight, I went outside the house, removed all my clothes, including my pants and bra. I looked up to God and cried. I said, God, you are the father of the fatherless. You know my story with this guy called Mike. You know what others don't know. If it is true I knew about Nike and still insisted on dating Mike, keep quiet about my issue, but if Mike lied against me, I want you to fight for me. I commit Mike, Nike and me into Your hands. With that, I went back inside the house, still crying.

Mike later resigned cos my male ogas were really on his case. They told him that if he could say I enticed him with gifts and money, then, he is not fit to be called a man. He had to resign when he could no longer bear the shame. On the other hand, I am still with the organisation and that singular case endeared lots of my ogas to me. They really showed me lots of care. All these happened in 2003.

Fast forward to 2013
I received a call and it was from Mike. I was shocked and he told me he decided to call just to say hi. I was surprised to hear from him and I spoke with him warmly. 10 years is a long time to keep grudges I told myself. He asked for my BB pin and I gave him. Once in a while he says hi and I reply. I was surprised when in September last year, he pinged me and told me he needed to speak with me and it wasn't a phone thing.

I told him to meet me at an eatery near my house. He came and he wasn't really looking good. He said he came to ask for my forgiveness cos he lied against me and I told him, haba, 10 years and you think I would still carry your matter for head. I told him there was nothing to forgive. He now said I should bless him and that was when I told him to go back to the office and confess to those same ogas that he lied against me. He said he would never do that. I asked him, how is your wife? Does she know you are here? He said, no and I smiled. I told him, so you want to make amends and still want your wife and my ogas to think I am all you said I was. I laugh. I left him hanging and went home.

In October last year, I celebrated my birthday and one of my ogas, who works in a similar organisation as the one I work with, called to wish me a happy birthday. He said he would like to take me and my friends out for a drink or two at the weekend.

I agreed and during the weekend, he took us out. We were eating cat fish pepper soup when his phone rang. I heard him sigh and say, na wah o, what is this again?

When he dropped, he started a story about a certain Mike in his office. He said the man is so effective, but seems bad luck keeps following him. The name Mike caught my fancy and I asked for his surname. Lo and behold, it was the same Mike I dated. I was curious and asked him for more details. He said anytime anything good is about to happen to Mike, something happens and someone else is giving the goodies instead.

He said the latest one is the issue of a car he personally approved. He said the oga patapata who is supposed to sign the final approval said he doesn't want Mike to have the car, instead he gave it to someone else who was lower in rank to Mike. He said lots of good things that have evaded Mike. I didn't tell him anything, I just kept quiet.

Mike sent me a mail and sent a text to my phone that I should check my mail. In the mail he said:
Dupe, continue to play God over my life. I know I made a mistake, why can't you just forgive me? Why must you insist I go back to that office and confess my mistakes? What's the big deal in forgiving me? We are fasting and praying in my church and one of the prophets that was invited told me to come and apologise to you and that you need to bless me to enable me move forward in life. Before this, I have been having dreams of someone asking me to come and beg you. Please, forgive me, but don't tell me to go back to that office. Let's bury the hatchet once and for all. I know you have challenges and I know you are still unmarried. What if this is because you have refused to bless me? Why don't you forgive and bless me and see if God won't turn your story around?

Now dear readers, this is where I need your advice. God knows I have forgiven Mike, but why can't he just go back to the office and tell my ogas he lied against me 10 years ago? What's the big deal in it? At the same time, I don't want to play God over anyone's life. Am I playing God by insisting he goes back to tell the truth?

Could this also be the reason she is still not married?
