Nigeria Ranks Low in Global Innovation Index

Out of 143 countries listed in the Global Innovation Index report released in Sydney, Australia, yesterday Friday 18th July 2014, Nigeria is in the 110th position.

The score is 27.8, with a 0.23%.

Topping the list are Switzerland, United Kingdom and Sweden. The annual rankings is published by Cornell University, INSEAD and the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Lagos Policeman Knocks Down Woman & Her Baby while Driving Against Traffic | Victims Sustain Brain Injury & Severe Fractures

A policeman in Lagos reportedly knocked down a woman and her baby while driving against traffic on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.

As a result of the incident, the woman,Taskirat Anjolaiya is said to have sustained a brain injury, pelvic fracture, and facial bruises. Her baby girl, Ammarah, suffered a broken jaw and deep facial cuts, according to Punch.

According to reports, eyewitnesses revealed that the policeman named “Friday,” was driving against traffic on the aforementioned express way when he knocked down the victims, who were alighting from a commercial bus and hadn’t noticed the police patrol van approaching  from the wrong direction.

Ibinabo Fiberesima Fires Back at Mr. Ibu – I Don’t Beg for Money from Gov. Like You Do

A few weeks ago, veteran actor John Okafor, popularly referred to as Mr. Ibu, slammed Actors Guild of Nigeria President Ibinabo Fiberesima in an interview with Encomium Weekly, saying she should not re-contest.

In the interview, he queried what Ibinabo did with the money that President Jonathan and other state governments gave the guild.

Ibinabo is now speaking out.

In a telephone conversation with Punch, she said;

“Which money is he talking about? That is why I said he is detached from the realities on ground. When we went to visit the President, there was no money promised to anybody. We didn’t go there to beg for money as Mr. Ibu is used to doing; we didn’t do that. They push you to the extent that you say things that you don’t want to. I’m not about money, for once they should stop and think, see what my team and I have achieved in two years.”

Impeachment: Edo, Rivers govs dare Jonathan

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole and his Rivers State counterpart, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, have said they are not losing sleep over the alleged plot by President Goodluck Jonathan to push for their impeachment.

The duo said the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party could not impeach them as the case of a former governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Murtala Nyako.

Photos: Aircraft carrying US soldiers crash lands on Ugandan Highway

 A small plane carrying 6 American soldiers today July 18th crash landed on a highway outside Uganda's capital Kampala after running out of fuel. It had to make a quick safe landing to avoid any disaster.

Reports say the plane which took off from the Entebbe airport in Uganda was heading to neighboring South Sudan when their aircraft was forced to turn back due to bad weather and then land on a highway after running out of fuel approximately 40 miles from the airport.   According to new reports, the credit cards, cash,jewellery and valuables of victims of the Malaysian crash were stolen by pro-Russian rebels who shot down the plane .

Anton Gerashchenko, an advisor to the Kiev government, said:

'I have received information that terrorist death-hunters were collecting not only cash and jewellery of the crashed Boeing dead passengers but also the credit cards of the victims.Currently, they might as well try to use them in Ukraine or pass them on to Russia.My humble request to the relatives of the victims to freeze their credit cards, so that they won't loose their assets to terrorists.'

Prophet T.B. Joshua has just released a video showing him foreseeing the controversial Malaysian Airlines MH17 disaster precisely five months earlier.

The footage from February 16, 2014 shows him speaking to his large congregation at The Synagogue, Church of All Nations in Lagos, Nigeria telling them to pray for Russia and its leader, Vladimir Putin, that ‘he should take note of his airspace.’  He described what seemed to be a spiritual attack ‘in the form of an aircraft crash’ designed to ‘rubbish the wonderful country.’

RCCG butchered in Borno, whereabout of wife & children unknown

Askira-Uba LGA of Borno state. The late pastor's wife and three children are feared to have been taken by the sect men who reportedly abducted some people on the day of the attack.

A resident of the village, Jacob Mamza, gave an account of how the pastor was killed to Vanguard;

"The pastor was in his house at about 6am when the insurgents attacked the village. His house was surrounded by the hoodlums and while attempting to run he was shot.  The world is still in shock over the tragic crash of Malaysia Airlines aircraft, Flight MH17, which crashed in East Ukraine near the Russian border yesterday after reportedly being shot down by a sophisticated surface-to-air missile.

No one has claimed responsibility for shooting down the plane. However, Ukrainian authorities have blamed pro-Russian rebels for the incident, calling it “an act of terrorism ,” Daily Mail reports.

Several feared killed as Boko Haram attacks Damboa in Borno state

Suspected members of Boko Haram this morning around 5am launched an attack on Damboa village in Borno, killing several people and destroying properties, Premium Times reports. Today's attack comes barely two weeks after an attack on security formation was launched in the village.

An official of the state's vigilante group, Abbas Gava, said he spoke with his men in Damboa village who confirmed the attack. He said soldiers have deserted the village after attempts to protect it was met with serious resistance from Boko Haram, who consistently engaged them in gun battle. He said the sect men have taken over the high way leading to the village and have on two occasions engaged the soldiers in a fierce gun battle that have forced the soldiers back to Maiduguri, the state capital.

9 Year Old South African Boy Marries 62-Year-Old Woman…For the 2nd Time

In 2013, the news of an 8-year-old South African school boy who married a 61 year old South African woman to “make ancestors happy”.

He later spoke about his new life with the woman.

Oscar Winning Film Editor Tom Rolf Passes Away at Age 83

LOS ANGELES (Reuters/NAN) ― Tom Rolf, who won an Oscar award for his work editing the 1983 space epic, The Right Stuff, has died aged 83.

In a career spanning four decades, the respected editor worked on over 40 films.

His credits included Michael Mann’s Heat, Robert Redford’s The Horse Whisperer, and Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, for which he won a Bafta nomination.

He won a career achievement award from the American Cinema Editors in 2003.

 The final Facebook post of a passenger who was on the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17, is currently trending.

Hours before the plane crashed in Ukraine, a man believed to be a passenger made reference to the missing Malaysian Airlines MH370 which mysteriously vanished in March.

On his Facebook page, Cor Pan shared a photo of the plane he was about boarding with a caption, “Mocht hij verdwijnen , zo ziet hij d’r uit”. It has been translated to “If it disappears, this is what it looks like”.

Typhoon Rammasun batters central Philippines

Typhoon Rammasun battered the Philippines, bringing down trees and knocking out power 

 Hundreds of thousands of Filipinos have been left without power many have fled their homes as Typhoon Rammasun hit Luzon island. The typhoon, also known as Glenda, barrelled across the island with gusts of up to 185km/h (115 mph).

Authorities said at least 20 people had been killed by the storm.

Officials said the eye of the storm passed south of the capital, Manila, but the severe weather brought it to a standstill.

2 Men Caught with Corpse of 2-Year-Old in Aba Arrested & Paraded

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, arrested two men found with a corpse of a two-year-old girl.

The men identified as Jonathan Nwogu and Chibuike Anubuife were arrested when trying to bury the corpse in an abandoned pit in Osisioma, near Aba. They were nabbed at a filling station near Ariaria International, Aba.

NSCDC’s state commandant Andy Dateer paraded the men before the press, and said it was a very sad day for the command.
