In Opoo, a remote community at the outskirts of Okaka in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State, life is a different mix for Abiola Bankole and her two little siblings – Yemi and Ibukun.
Their school, Community Primary School Opoo, boasts only three classrooms with no basic facilities to support any meaningful academic exercise. Two out of the three classrooms have their roof completely blown off by the wind while the only surviving one shared by the entire school of about 150 pupils is half way from finally caving.

More than half of the schools population wear mufti to classes because their parents cannot afford uniforms. Many of the children carry their books to school in sacks or with their bare hands. Not only that, pupils drink water mixed with cattle urine and faeces as the only source of water in community is shared by both animals and human begins. Continue...

Bomb explosion kills 10 in Bauchi (Photos)

 10 people have been confirmed dead with 14 others seriously injured after a bomb exploded at a brothel in Bayangari in Bauchi state yesterday night around 9.45pm. 

The Bauchi State Police Command spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident in a statement and said investigations has commenced but no arrest has been made so far.

"The entire surrounding has been cordoned and scene secure. No arrest has been made yet and investigation has commenced to ascertain the cause” Mr. Mohammed said in a statement late Friday night.

# Ice-T’s Grandson Arrested for Accidentally Killing Roommate#

Rapper and star of “Ice Loves Coco” reality TV show Ice-T‘s grandson has been arrested for accidentally shooting and killing his roommate.

19-year-old Elyjah Marrow was fiddling with a gun in his apartment on Tuesday when it accidentally went off, fatally wounding 19-year-old roommate Daryus Johnson.

He has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct, possession of firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and possession of a stolen firearm.

Elyjah who is the son of Ice-’s daughter, is currently in custody.

#Tricycle Operator Sells his One-day-old Son for N500,000#

A middle-aged man was paraded by the police in Abia State on Thursday for allegedly selling his one-day-old son.

Ogbonna Chukwudi , 27, a tricycle operator and resident of Cool Park Street, Ogbo Hill, Aba, allegedly sold his only son few hours after his wife put to birth in a private birth centre also in Ogbo Hill. And according to the Police Commissioner, Adamu Ibrahim, the suspect had arranged with the nurse who operated the centre and a buyer was contacted.
He said:

“The incident took place on June 18, 2014. Luck, however, ran out on them when the
wife woke up and sought to see her baby. She was told by the husband that the baby was dead and had been buried.”

Still on the late night explosion that rocked  Folawiyo axis of Creek Road, Apapa in Lagos on Wednesday...no one is certain about what really happened.

Although the Director of the State Fire Service claimed it wasn’t a bomb blast but a gas explosion, the Nigerian police force rebuffed the claim, saying the explosion occurred after a tanker carrying fuel busted into flames...now, residents and some journalists are claiming otherwise.

They are certain that what happened was a bomb blast and not a gas explosion or a fuel tanker busting into flames.

 After the Bomb blast at Emab plaza,Abuja which claimed 22 lives and left 50 others injured, some of the survivors have narrated their close shave with death to Vanguard

A taxi driver, who identified himself as Malachy Odo, said he was caught up in the midst of the ravaging fire after the bomb exploded at the car park of Emab Plaza

He said:

 “I had arrived at the plaza in my cab minutes earlier. After the last passenger alighted from the cab, I was reversing when I heard the explosion. My car went up in flames, and I struggled to pass through the window and in the process my left hand caught fire.  As I was running for my dear life, broken glasses pierced my feet. I was later rushed by rescuers to Maitama General Hospital.”

How female kidnapper strangled & tied neighbor's 6-year old son in a box(Photo)

A six-year-old boy, Emmanuel Emeka, who was rescued from a suspected kidnapper on Wednesday in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, has recounted how he was lured, seized and tied up by his abductor.

Emmanuel said the suspect, identified as Mama Ifunaya, who was a neighbour, lured him into her room, strangled him,covered his mouth with clothes before tying him up with rope to prevent him from screaming.

He said,

“I wanted to draw water and take my bath before going to school when she told me to come. I went because I know her; she is Mama Ifunnaya. But when I got to her side, she threw me inside her room… she closed her net. She then tied me and put me inside a box.I wanted to shout, but I could not shout properly. I heard my mummy’s voice when she was looking for me, but I could not shout. She (pointing to the suspect) is a wicked person.”

#13-year-old Boy Discovers Massive Bomb near Kano Mosque#

A 13-year-old boy, today, discovered a massive bomb placed in a car near a Jumuat Mosque in Kano and promptly alerted the police.

According to the police spokesperson in Kano, Magaji Majiya, the young boy became suspicious after noticing the abandoned car looking “heavy with loads.”

Mr. Majiya said:

“The bomb targeting worshippers was placed inside a Toyota Tercel car near a Mosque

#Making Jonathan look good: Nigeria hires U.S. PR firm with $1.2 million for Boko Haram fallout#

The Nigerian government has signed a contract worth more than $1.2 million with a Washington public relations firm to deal with the fallout from the Boko Haram kidnappings, documents obtained by The Hill show.

President Goodluck Jonathan, who is up for reelection in February, is seeking to counter the perception that he has not done enough to combat the Islamic extremists in his country who abducted more than 270 schoolgirls in April.

To that end, his government has hired Levick, a prominent PR and lobbying firm in Washington, to engage in an effort to change the “the international and local media narrative” surrounding Nigeria’s “efforts to find and safely return the girls abducted by the terrorist organization Boko Haram,” according to a contract document signed June 13.
