Senate President, Saraki writes APC, says ‘my hands are tied’

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, in a letter written to the All Progressives Congress, said his hands were tied with regard to the selection of principal officers of the upper chamber. This was contained in a Friday report on www.thecable.ng.

The National Chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, had on June 23, written to Saraki, stating the party’s choice of principal officers of the senate.

Seventy-two-year-old veteran journalist and a self-acclaimed human rights activist, Pa Ahmed Adoke, said he had yet to fully understand why he was in custody, when he was paraded alongside 45 others on charges of armed robbery, kidnapping and cattle rustling.

Adoke, who is related to a former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, was paraded with the others by the police in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital on Monday. But he continues to maintain his innocence as his family said he was on his own.

Former 60 Minute Makeover host, Michelle Watt has been found dead at her home, aged 38.
The daughter of boxing champion Jim Watt died on Wednesday.

Man arrested for taking photographs of policemen collecting bribe (Photo)

 

A young man, Thompson Ntiedo has been arrested for taking pictures of a policeman collecting bribe from a commercial motorist, He was arrested by personnel of the Okota Police Station on Tuesday evening, who claimed they were carrying out the directives of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), James Chu, a CSP.

The victim was detained for three hours, released on bail at about 9pm with his two phones confiscated after he was forced to delete all the pictures he took.He was asked to return to the station Wednesday morning which he did and was finally set free following the intervention of the police human rights officer.

Shocking: Police nab 18-year-old man for defiling 8yr old boy in Bauchi (Photo)

Bauchi—The Bauchi State police command on Tuesday paraded an 18-year-old man for having unlawful carnal knowledge of an 8-year-old boy.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Haruna Mohammed, said at the parade of the suspect in Bauchi:  “On Saturday, June 20, 2015, at about 4pm, police detectives attached to Dass Division arrested one Mustapha Abdullahi, Male, 18, of Wandi District, Dass LGA, Bauchi State.

“ Suspect lured an 8-year-old boy and had unlawful carnal knowledge against the order of nature.”

He said the victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Dass for medical examination, adding that the case was under investigation.

According to him, the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution as soon as investigation is concluded.

EFCC: Man named Joseph Gabriel accused of impersonating Benue State Governor

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ,EFCC, has arraigned Joseph Gabriel before Justice Lawal Akapo of the Lagos State High Court Ikeja for conspiracy, extortion and forgery.

 

The EFCC said that Gabriel was arrested in 2014 following a petition that he impersonated the former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam.

The EFCC said Gabriel had attempted to extort money from some foreigners under the pretext of giving them contracts.

President Buhari parries question on ministerial list

President Muhammadu Buhari may shock state governors and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress by the time he releases the list of his ministerial nominees, investigation has revealed.

THE PUNCH learnt on Tuesday that indication that Buhari was keeping matters relating to the appointment close to his chest emerged during a meeting he held with state governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

A governor who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that one of his colleagues raised the issue at the meeting.

LOGOS: 52-year-old teacher rapes 5 year old pupil in classroom

 

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a 52-year-old school teacher, Isaac Ikiabeke, for allegedly raping a 5-year-old pupil in the Ikorodu area.

 

Ikiabeke, who is the proprietor of the school, Brighter Glory School, located on Etunrere Street, raped his victim after school hours.

The victim, five-year-old Pat (not her real name), said Ikiabeke had allegedly raped her 10 times.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said he inherited a country with virtually an empty treasury from   former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Buhari, who met with State House correspondents on Monday to mark his first day in the Aso Rock office, said his administration was being weighed down by debts running into millions of dollars.

Although he did not say how much debt he met, he   promised to put in his best to salvage the country from the brink of collapse.

Salaries: FG’s condition worse than states’, says Gov. Oshiomhole...

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, says the Federal Government’s financial standing is worse than the states’.

Oshiomhole said this during a programme on Channels Television titled, “View from the top”.

About 18 states owe workers salaries while many others have stopped all capital projects, following the drop in federal allocations caused by the drop in global oil price.

However, Oshiomhole said the Federal Government’s was also struggling.

Many state governors will at their meeting on Tuesday(today) with President Muhammadu Buhari demand the refund of billions of naira they spent on Federal Government projects in their respective states during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.

A greater chunk of the money went into the rehabilitation of federal roads in the states.

For instance, 11 out of the   36 states of the federation will be demanding the refund of N300.5bn from Buhari.

Passenger Dies inside Taxi at Mortuary Junction in Ogun State!!!

 

There was pandemonium at Kemta – Idi Aba area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, for the better part of Monday morning as a passenger died inside a taxi on his way to buy herbal medicine.

The passenger identified as Michael Hogan boarded the taxi and was going to Abeokuta from Odeda in Odeda local government area of the state, but died getting to his destination. A man crowned the ugliest man in Uganda has become a dad for the EIGHTH time. Godfrey Baguma, known as Sebabi - which means 'ugliest of them all' - suffers from a rare medical condition giving him his distinctive looks.
