Kate Henshaw in a new interview with DailyTrust has revealed her mum's reaction when she first heard Kate was going into politics this year. Excerpts:

• Weekend Magazine: How did your family and friends respond when you said you wanted to become a politician?

Kate Henshaw:

My mum said ‘no way’. I told her to pray for me and she said she wasn’t going to, so I told her I’d pray for myself. Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State and his deputy, Chief Steven Lawani, were involved in a ghastly road accident on Friday in which eight people were injured.The accident came a day before the governor’s  50th birthday which holds today.

The governor’s official vehicle in which he was travelling and his spare vehicle were directly affected by the impact of the crash. The two officials who were in the same vehicle escaped unhurt.

According to the Tribune ,It was gathered that the governor and his deputy were on their way to an official assignment in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area and Gboko when the accident occurred.

According to a new report on SaharaReporters, the hopes of thousands of women mobilized for the flag-off of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in Bayelsa state by Nigeria’s first lady, Patience Jonathan, were dashed as they were sent home with nothing yesterday after policemen tear gassed a couple of them.

Some overzealous security operatives also used batons on the hapless women who were frustrated for being hoodwinked by Mrs. Jonathan to come for the "empowerment program" she had claimed was

7-month Pregnant Woman Dies after Romp with Lover in Onitsha

The police in Anambra State are interrogating a man to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a seven-month pregnant woman during a marathon sex bout with him in Onitsha.

Vanguard reports that the man (names withheld), according to a police source, had allegedly taken the deceased to an undisclosed hotel in Onitsha, only for the hotel staff to discover that the woman was dead in the morning. The incident, the source said, occurred on Tuesday when the man allegedly
checked into the hotel with the heavily pregnant woman, only to find out in the morning that his partner could not wake up on Wednesday morning.

Though the police in Onitsha Area Command refused to give details on the incident, a resident of the area said the suspect and the deceased were just love birds. He said the suspect had lodged into the hotel room and invited the deceased through a phone call.

Okada Rider Rapes 14-year-old Tuberculosis Patient in Lagos (PHOTO)

A 35-year-old man, Andrew Ekanem, has been arrested by the police for allegedly raping his neighbour’s daughter in the Bariga area of Lagos State.

And according to PUNCH Metro, the 14-year-old victim was still undergoing a six-month treatment for tuberculosis when she was attacked by the suspect on Monday morning. She was the first of her parents' children.

U2 Singer Bono and four friends Cheats Death after Private Jet Door Falls Off

 U2 lead singer Bono and four friends cheated death yesterday when a rear door of their private jet fell off mid-flight.

According to DailyMail, the Irish rock star was on board the Learjet 60 D-CGEO making the two-hour afternoon trip from Dublin to Berlin. He was the only member of U2 on the plane, as bandmates Larry Mullen, the Edge and Adam Clayton were due to fly separately late last night. The group were lined up to accept an award at the Bambi International Music awards in Berlin, but Bono flew out early to attend a diplomatic function with the German minister of economic cooperation and development, Gerd Mueller.

'I Couldn’t Pay My Mother’s Rent as Minister' – Dr. Oby Ezekwesili

Former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has revealed that she could not afford to pay her mother’s rent while serving in government.

During a live interview at the ongoing national convention of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Ogun State on Thursday, PUNCH reports that the former minister had been invited to speak to the congregation on the topic, “Integrity.” That was when she told the congregation that integrity comes with its cost, adding that she did not spend from her imprest accounts as minister of Solid Minerals, and later, Education.

‘Stop Begging for Failed Law School Students’

The Body of Benchers, whose responsibility is to admit and call successful students of the Nigerian Law School to the bar, has warned Nigerians to desist from begging for the students who failed their final Bar examination.

The Nigerian Law School had recorded mass failure in her 2013/2014 final Bar examination. About 50 per cent of the students reportedly failed the examination. And now, the body, through its Chairman, Chief Onomigbo Okpoko (SAN), says they have been flooded with requests from members of the public for waiver and review of the results, which should stop now. Hunters kill over 75 Boko Haram men, recapture Maiha town in Adamawa....)

According to reports, about 75 Boko Haram men were killed this week by local hunters in Maiha town, which is about 25km from Mubi town in Adamawa State.

The hunters also recaptured their town which was captured by the insurgents this past Monday. The local hunters, armed with rifles, machetes, bows & arrows, ambushed the insurgents as they came to fight with the Nigerian military in their town and killed as many of them as they could.

GOODNEWS: Police finally arrest Gunmen who killed Nollywood Actor, Clem Onyeka...

The Delta State Police Command on Saturday paraded over 15 armed robbery and kidnap suspects including a robbery gang which had caused the death of popular Nollywood actor, Clems Onyeka. Addressing journalists at its end of month press conference at the Police Headquarters in Asaba, the new Commissioner of Police, CP Alkali Baba Usman, pointed out that the command is out to ensure a drastic reduction of crime in all parts of the state. He reflected on some the successes recorded in the month under review. Notable among them was the arrest of an armed robbery gang that attacked a bullion van on DBS Road, Asaba which led to the death of Clems Onyeka on October 4.
