Italian police said Thursday they had arrested a group of African migrants after witnesses said they threw 12 passengers overboard following a row about religion on a boat headed to Europe.

Three gunmen on Thursday unleashed terror on residents of the new layout at Okpanam town in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State. The gang, which operated with a battle axe, The Eagle Online gathered, raided the houses behind the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Mega Station along Asaba/Benin Expressway.

They stormed the house of one Chidi Ajah, injured one Ifeanyi Ajah with their battle axe on his head, before whisking away his wife in their waiting Lexus Jeep 350 with registration number LND 813 CP. The victim was one Amarachi Chidi, a 37-year-old woman.

Marie Hunt of Spring Green, Wisconsin just completed her high school diploma at the age of 103!

The centenarian was supposed to graduate the class of 1928, but she dropped out of school to take care of her siblings.

'Kidnapping Is Our Family Business' - Says Arrested Nanny (Video)

This story goes a long way to show that parents need to be extra careful on who they let into their homes.

The nanny, who kidnapped three children in the Surulere area of Lagos State, has said her husband, Waheed Kareem, is the mastermind of the kidnap.

She added that Kareem was the head of a kidnap ring that involved some members of his family. It was gathered that Kareem escaped arrest.

The nanny, who adopted a pseudonym, Mary Akinloye, to deceive the Orekoyas, confessed that her actual name was Funmilayo Adeyemi, a 35-year-old indigene of Osun State.

Oh No: Dozens Die In Latest Migrant Sinking

More than 40 people have drowned off Sicily in the latest sinking of a migrant boat between Libya and Italy, Italian media reports.

Almost 10,000 migrants have been rescued trying to reach the Italian coast in recent days. Hundreds have died since the start of the year.

Italy has called for more help from the European Union in handling the crisis.

Earlier this week, about 400 people were believed to have drowned when their boat capsized.

Passengers on a Bus Rapid Transit going to the CMS area of Lagos on Wednesday were forced to become emergency midwives and labour attendants when a pregnant woman was delivered of a bouncing baby boy inside the bus.

According to reports, the woman identified simply as Afolaranmi, was going to a private hospital in CMS for a medical checkup, when her labour suddenly started. Fortunately, some medical workers in the bus immediately organised other passengers and helped in delivering the baby at about 12pm, around the Constain bus stop.

Revealed: Ransom Was Paid For The Kidnapped Orekoya Kids, Family Says

Emotions ran high on Wednesday at the Police College Hospital, Ikeja, where the Orekoya children were being treated after they were released by their captors. Their father, Leke, said they were put in bags by the kidnappers, who left them at the Shasha area of Lagos.

On Wednesday, exactly eight days after the abduction, the three children were released to the family.
They were said to have been released on Tuesday night, and taken to the Police College Hospital, Ikeja for treatment.

Remember the case of a young woman named Cynthia that was murdered in Lagos last year by a friend she meet on facebook?

A defence witness  in the ongoing murder trial of Cynthia Osokogu, Olisaeloka Chidera-Ezike, yesterday, told a Lagos High Court sitting at Igbosere that he never met Cynthia Osokogu in person.

The witness said he only heard about her from his uncle, Okwumo Nwabufo, who is the first defendant.

Chidera-Ezike, who is the second defendant in the murder case, said this while being cross examined by the Attorney General of Lagos State, Mr. Ade Ipaye, the prosecutor in the matter.

PDP Rejects Kogi State Assembly Results

The Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi State has rejected the results of the April 11 House of Assembly elections in the state, alleging mass irregularities by the major opposition party in the state, the All Progressives Congress.

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday declared the results of elections in 19 state constituencies.

INEC, however, declared elections in the remaining six as inconclusive.

The PDP won 12 of the seats while the APC won seven.

Woman, 30, Charged With Theft Of N3.6m Phone Accessories In Lagos

A 30-year-old woman, Judith Udedike, has been charged before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing cell phone batteries and earphones valued at N3.6 million, being property of her employer, Chidera Ogbodo.

The accused was said to have committed the offence at Alaba International Market, Lagos.
Udedike was arraigned by the police on a count-charge of stealing.

However, when the charge was read to the accused before Magistrate Abimbola Komolafe, she pleaded not guilty.

Pres. Jonathan’s Rejection Of Amended Constitution Shocks Senate

President Goodluck Jonathan’s letter to the National Assembly rejecting amendments to the 1999 Constitution was received with shock by some members who openly expressed surprise at the reasons given by the President to veto the bill.

The letter was read on the floor of Senate on Wednesday by the Senate President, David Mark.

According to him, using the best technology in town, they the police had tracked the phone calls between the kids' family and their abductors and narrowed it down to Shasha area. So Sad: Naval Officer Mistaken For A Robber Gets Lynched In Abuja (Photos)

 According to reports, this young naval officer pictured above, Commander Awi Samuel Ugbodi from Oori town of Benue State, has been killed.

The naval officer was mistaken for a robber while with his younger brother in a car. They got chased by a mob made up of Okada riders who beat them up badly and set them on fire before they could even explain and identify themselves.

"He is my brother CKN, the whole of my village is thrown into mourning right now. He was in the company of his younger brother to go get fuel. He arrived at a police check point and the police on duty told him to stop because of the robbery going on; I don't know why he just drove past the police. The okada people ran after him, seeing that he stopped for them, the next thing was to drag him out of his vehicle together with his younger brother, beat them up to the point of death and set them ablaze.

'Woman Played Dead In Graveyard After Jealous estranged Husband Tried To Stab Her To Death' (Photos)

‘Poll Fraud In Rivers State Won’t Stand’

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Rivers State governorship election, Dakuku Peterside, has expressed confidence that the electoral fraud allegedly perpetrated by the Peoples Democratic Party during the elections will not stand.

Dakuku, who spoke in a telephone interview with PUNCH on Tuesday, explained that it was too early for the PDP to celebrate because the era of people getting away with electoral fraud was over.

Six Countries Allegedly Reject Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke’s Asylum Request

No fewer than six countries have already refused to grant an asylum request by the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, the Business Council for Africa (BCA) said in its just-released monthly report, noting that about US$ 1 trillion is the latest estimated figure of the looting of the Nigerian treasury between 1960 and 2005 alone.

The report, dated March 2015, focused extensively on Nigeria’s general elections. It said
the notorious Minister, whose impunity is known to have been closely-protected by President Goodluck Jonathan, will be coming under the microscope for the first time in her Ministerial career.

“Given her reputation, it comes as no surprise to learn that 6 countries have already refused to grant her asylum to live in their countries as she now wishes to leave Nigeria at the earliest possible opportunity,” it said.

Supreme Court Affirms Ayodele Fayose’s Victory

The Supreme Court on Tuesday affirmed Ayodele Fayose as the winner and the duly elected governor of Ekiti State in the June 21, 2014 election.

In a unanimous decision by the seven-man panel led by Justice John Fabiyi, the apex court upheld the earlier decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Ekiti State Governorship Election Tribunal, both of which had earlier ruled that the petition challenging Fayose’s victory lacked merit.

In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, the apex court dismissed all the grounds of appeal filed by the petitioner – the All Progressives Congress – and resolved all four issues arising from the appeal against the party.

Pres. Jonathan Rejects Amended Constitution

President Goodluck Jonathan has rejected the amendments made to the 1999 Constitution by the National Assembly, The PUNCH has learnt.

A top government official who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent on Tuesday that Jonathan vetoed the amendment on Monday.

The official said the decision of the President not to sign the document was because the amendment did not meet the provisions of Section 9 (3) of the 1999 Constitution.

1. N195 Billion Maina Pension Scam
It is believed that Alhaji Maina misappropriated billions of naira worth of pension funds, which he claimed to have recovered from pension thieves. The senate committee probing pension funds management accused him of mopping up pension funds from banks and depositing the money in his private accounts. According to the committee, this mopping of such funds had made it impossible to pay thousands of pensioners across the country for months. When he was summoned to appear and clear the air on the committee’s findings, Alhaji Maina instituted a N1.5bn case against the senate and the inspector general of police. Things came to a head last week when the senate passed a resolution asking the presidency to sack Alhaji Maina within two days or face its wrath.
