Grant amnesty to Boko Haram, Northern elders ask President- elect, Buhari

Prominent northerners including the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Mohammed Uwais and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe and former Nigerian Ambassador to the United Nations, Ibrahim Gambari have asked the President -elect, General Muhammadu Buhari to declare amnesty for Boko Haram insurgents when he takes over power on May 29.

They also asked Buhari to give priority attention to the special economic programmes for the North East geopolitical zone which had been ravaged by the Boko Haram terrorists, just as they warned against the scrapping of the on-going amnesty programme for ex-militants in the Niger Delta region

Governor Adams Oshiomhole's mother, Hajia Aishetu Oshiomhole was at her son's wedding to Iara Fortes and was glad he heeded her advise. “Sahara Reporters Lied”: Diezani Alison-Maduekeis in London for Son’s Graduation

Contrary to reports on Friday by online newspaper, Sahara Reporters that Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, yesterday booked herself on a British Airways flight to London with Nigeria’s President-Elect, Muhammad Buhari in an attempt to travel with the President-Elect, a close family source to Mrs. Madueke has disclaimed the report as utter rubbish and a poor attempt at gossip journalism.

OMG: 4 Priests Beaten to Pulp as Enugu Govt Battles Anglican Church (Photo)

No fewer than six persons, including four Anglican priests, were on Friday allegedly beaten to stupor by some members a task-force working with the Enugu State Housing Corporation. The victims were Reverends Collins Odoabuchi, Mbaka Peter, Eugene, and Maxwell Onyia.
Others members of the church affected were Ekpecha Okechukwu and Naomi Ibekwe.

The development, which is building up tension in Enugu, the state capital is coming one week to the end of Governor Sullivan Chime’s administration.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that trouble started when members of the task force, accompanied by armed policemen, invaded a parcel of land belonging to the Christ Church, Uwani, Anglican

Alfa runs mad,dies after drinking herbal mixture in Lagos

An Islamic cleric, Taiye Bamidele, fondly called Alfa, has died after consuming herbal mixure in the FESTAC area of Lagos State.

The 24-year-old was said to have first acted strangely and behaved violently before dying on Saturday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that a day to the incident, he had complained to his friend, Akintunde Akinwunmi, that he was ill.Akinwunmi was said to have gone to a herb vendor around the area, who sold the herbal mixture to him.

62 year woman cured of insanity after being hit by a vehicle in Enugu (Photo)

For the family of the late Emmanuel Ugwu of Umuebiem, Agbamere community, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, there is new hope in their mentally-challenged mother, Victoria, who was hit by a vehicle becoming sane again.

The accident, which occurred at Ugwuawarawa in Nsukka, would have sent the 62-year-old mother of four to her grave, but instead it served as the beginning of her healing process from the protracted mental illness that bedeviled her.

For well over three decades, Mrs. Ugwu, popularly known as Mama Nnenna, has literally become mad, and many times gone stark naked as a result of her ill health. The woman who has been staying at Total Roundabout in Nsukka, attracted the attention of Daily Sun when for over three months her whereabouts could not be accounted for.

Shocking: Osun Worker Attempts Suicide over Unpaid Salary

This is so, so sad. A senior civil servant in the Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, Mr. Ojo Owolabi, has attempted to end his life by drinking a large quantity of insecticide.

It was learnt that Owolabi took the action because of his inability to feed his family due to the failure of the state government to pay salaries.

Civil servants in the state have not been paid their salaries in the last six months.

Punch reports that the incident which happened at Owolabi’s residence last Saturday caused
pandemonium in the neighborhood. Owolabi, who is a sanitary officer at the council was receiving treatment at a hospital.

Nigerians ask Yale to withdraw Okonjo - Iweala’s award

Some Nigerians have called on Yale University in the United States to withdraw the Honorary Degree it bestowed on the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Okonjo-Iweala had been awarded Doctor of Humane Letters by the prestigious institution on May 15, 2015.

The institution, while presenting the award to Okonjo-Iweala, had said, “As a minister in your country, you made social and economic reforms your mission. Corruption: Gen. Buhari may discard AGF’s guidelines for EFCC

There are indications that the incoming Muhammadu Buhari presidency may discard the regulations drawn for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke (SAN), The PUNCH has learnt.

The regulation, a subsidiary legislation derived from provisions of section 43 of the EFCC (Establishment) Act 2004, is believed to be hampering the independence of the anti-graft agency in prosecuting high profile corruption cases.

Man Dies After Winning Ogogoro Drinking & Smoking Competition in Lagos (Graphic Photo)

A security man, simply identified as Thompson, has died after drinking a bottle of a popular alcoholic drink and smoking five sticks of cigarette in two minutes, which were the terms of a bet he entered into with others he met at a joint.

The incident happened at Agege area of Lagos on May 7, after the deceased bought bottles of Ogogoro (local gin) for his drinking companions, who then challenged him to finish a bottle of bitters and smoke five sticks of cigarette within a stipulated time.

If he had won, the friends would have paid for everything he consumed.

Angry Passenger Strips Himself Naked at an International Airport (See Photo)

A man, who was apparently angry about an overbooked flight, reportedly stripped naked at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina Wednesday morning.

Witnesses say he was trying to get onboard a U.S. Airways flight to Jamaica. He allegedly began yelling and undressing at the gate once he realized the flight was overbooked.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was taken by paramedics for treatment. Police say he will not face charges.

Hold on to your lunch, guys, this story is pretty nauseating. A young man in Guangdong Province of China was caught in the act of eating feces out of a toilet in a public restroom.

According to Chinese media reports, a female reporter was informed by a local citizen that there was a man in a particular public toilet who “ate poop.” When the reporter went to investigate, she indeed found a young man with his head in the bowl of a toilet vigorously munching on something.

Freaked out, the reporter ran outside, but waited to speak with the man when he emerged. She asked him what he had been doing, and he replied, “I was eating poop.” He further claimed that women’s poop was “more delicious” than men’s.

The Officer-in-charge of the Osiele Police Post, Abeokuta, Ogun State, John Mafoya, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, has been arrested and is being quizzed at the state police command headquarters for allegedly raping a student of the Federal College of Education, Osiele, identified simply as Oluwaseun.

14 killed in Ekiti, Plateau, Benue mayhem (Photo)

FOURTEEN people were killed in separate violence that rocked Ekiti, Plateau and Benue states on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Three of the deaths were recorded in Ado Ekiti during a clash between transport workers and Hausa traders   while six were   in Plateau State where     gunmen invaded four villages in the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The third incident which was also by gunmen left five persons dead in Jooter, Ukum Local Government Area of   Benue state.
