Mother of 3-year-old girl stolen overnight: I’m finished, I wish I’d stayed back in Togo

According to a report on punch a Togolese couple who came to settle in Nigeria about 10 years ago. This was immediately obvious right from the entrance of the cemented red-brick bungalow they live in on a street in Shasha, Akowonjo area of Lagos.

The Ananis live in a small one-room apartment with their three young children.

But between 2am and 4am on Monday, May 26, 2014, night marauders came calling in their home when Akuvi’s husband was away at work in Apapa area of Lagos.

Their target was one single thing; the couple’s three-year-old daughter, Blessing.

“I wish I did not come to Nigeria for a better life. My life is finished now, my child is gone,” Akuvi said. 

“My life is over, I can’t stand this agony. I never knew a child could be stolen while asleep in her own house in the middle of the night. I knew thieves break in to steal money and other valuables, but I never heard of thieves breaking in to steal a child. 

“This is unfair. I don’t even feel safe again. The police are not helping at all. Had I known, I would have stayed back in Togo. I am finished,” she told our correspondent.

Beggar Raised Alarm In Ibadan As He Saw The "Bomb"

Oyo State capital Ibadan was bothered by a bomb rumour about the IED allegedly planted in Sabo.
The information reportedly started circulating about 7:30pm causing mass escape of the residents for safety.
People were also calling their relatives and friends begging them to avoid Sabo/Mokola Roundabout, The Nation reports.

It was later learnt that the bomb scare appeared as the beggar spotted the "explosive device"  and raised the alarm.

According to police spokesman Bisi Ilobanafor, the alarm was luckily false. Anti-bomb squad inspected the item and found it was a briefcase having a typewriter inside.

However, she thanked people for reporting the suspicious object and urged them to keep staying vigilant.

Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero dies at 83

According to family sources, one the most prominent traditional rulers of Nigeria passed away at the age of 83 in Kano in the early hours of today, 2014, Friday.

The burial ceremony in accordance with Islamic rites will be held later today.

The late Emir of Kano was born on July 25, 1930. He took the throne in 1963.

Ado Bayero was the 13th Fulani emir since the Fulani War of Usman dan Fodio, when the Fulani took over the Hausa city-states. The late Emir also served as an Ambassador to Senegal.

Two Ex-Bankers Jailed 43 Years For N9.7m Fraud

 

Bright Evobai and Okechukwu Okolo, former employees of Intercontinental Bank Plc (now Access Bank), today, June 5, 2014 were sentenced to fourty three years imprisonment over false pretence and forgery by the Kano State High Court.

They ex-bankers who were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on November 27, 2012 on an eight count charge conspired and defrauded the bank of Nine Million Seven Hundred Thousand Naira by using stolen letterhead paper belonging to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Kano and forged the signatures of four designated signatories including one of their superiors at the bank, to siphon fund from the hospital’s fixed deposit account.

 The brother of the Sudanese Christian woman, Meriam Ibrahim who was sentenced to death for apostasy, in a new interview with CNN says his sister was “given a magic potion” to bewitch her into leaving Islam – and should be executed for doing so.

Al Samani Al Hadi Mohamed Abdullah had handed his sister to the authorities because, according to him, his family are “Muslim people.” He claimed that Ms Ibrahim, 27, was born as Abrar Al Hadi but changed her name when she was drugged by her husband, Daniel Wani. The police command in Borno State, on Thursday, presented N16m cash to families of 16 policemen who died in May after suspected insurgents attacked Ngala, headquarters of Gamboru-Ngala Local Government Council in Borno.

36 year old Imo-state born Anabaronye Ken, an auto parts dealer based in Lagos has been arrested by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officials after he excreted 52 wraps of cocaine at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. Boko Haram Kill At Least 91 In Raids On Borno Villages

More details on latest Boko Haram raids on Borno communities became available on June 4, 2014, Wednesday. Local security sources claimed that at least 91 people lost their lives in separate Tuesday’s attacks.

According to SaharaReporters Boko Haram militants launched a number of bloody and well-coordinated attacks in Gwoza Local Government Area.

The terrorists invaded Aganjara, Agapalawa, Attagara and Ngoshe villages driving military-style vehicles, including an armoured personnel carrier. The attackers were also dressed in uniforms.
Many locals have initially thought that the gunmen were the soldiers of the Nigerian Army. The militants have reportedly ordered the villagers, whom they were able to spot, to line up. Then the terrorists opened fire on the helpless and unsuspecting victims. The death toll of such a vicious attack is likely to hit 100 people.
An undisclosed resident, who talked to the newsmen via phone, narrated that two of his relatives have miraculously escaped manslaughter in the village of Attagara.

House Orders N225m bullet-proof Cars Returned to Contractor

The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, yesterday, ordered the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, to return the controversial N225 million bullet-proof cars that were purchased during the tenure of former Aviation Minister, Princess Stella Oduah, and recover the money.

Chairman of the committee, Nkiruka Chidubem Onyejeocha, said NCAA have no business keeping the cars, stressing that the contract terms between NCAA and Coscharis Motors should be cancelled and the money recovered from the supplier.

She made this call while on an oversight visit to the agencies at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

She said: “What we said about the bullet proof cars is that the contract should be cancelled and that they do not have any business keeping the cars. It should be returned to the supplier and then recover our money,” adding that due process was not followed in the contract.

13 Year Old Indian Girl Becomes Youngest to Climb Mount Everest

On Sunday 25th May 2014, the 13-year-old daughter of poor Indian farmers became the youngest girl to climb Mount Everest.

At a press conference held yesterday Wednesday 4th June 2014, she revealed that she “shed joyful tears” at the summit after a grueling climb.

According to Associated Press, Nepal requires climbers to be at least 16 years old to scale its peak, but she and a team of Nepalese climbing guides made it to the top on May 25th from the northern side in Tibet. China has no age restrictions.

Malavath says “it was very difficult. Every step is a dangerous step”, and she saw “six dead bodies. I was shocked. Oh my God, I got some fear.”
