Sad: Still Alice Writer Passes Away At 63 After Four-Year Battle With ALS

Richard Glatzer, who co-wrote and directed the Oscar-winning movie Still Alice alongside his husband, Wash Wesmoreland, has passed away at the age of 63 from a four-year battle with ALS.

This heartbreaking news comes not even a month after Julianne Moore took home an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film, playing a woman with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.

The late scribe and his husband were signed to adapt the script from Lisa Genova's novel Still Alice back in 2011, right after Richard was diagnosed with ALS. But even though the illness progressed rapidly, he never missed a day on set!

Westmoreland, who has been married to Glatzer since 2013, is "devastated" by his husband's passing:
"Rich was my soulmate, my collaborator, my best friend and my life. Seeing him battle ALS for four years with such grace and courage inspired me and all who knew him. In this dark time, I take some consolation in the fact that he got to see Still Alice go out into the world. He put his heart and soul into that film, and the fact that it touched so many people was a constant joy to him."
Our heart goes out to Westmoreland and all who knew and loved Richard.
