70-yr-old woman protests son’s murder in Benin City

BENIN CITY — THE 70-year-old mother of Comrade Daniel Aifegha,  murdered by unknown persons in his Eme-Ora country home, Owan West Local Government Council of Edo State, last month, yesterday led a protest in Benin City, calling on the new Inspector General of Police and the Directorate of the State Services, DSS, in the state to investigate and prosecute the killers of her son.

The 37-year-old Daniel, who was the coordinator of the Kukuruku Youth Renaissance Network in Owan West, was murdered on Tuesday, July 29, 2014.

However, the mother, Madam Magdalene and one of the deceased’s daughters, led a protest in Benin City yesterday, lamenting alleged attempts by the perpetrators of the crime to cover it up.

Also, the Kukuruku Youth Network, in a petition addressed to the state Police Commissioner, alleged that the victim was threatened by some politicians in the area before his death. They, therefore, urged the Edo State Police Command to investigate and arrest the suspects no matter their positions in the society.

The petition signed by its National President, Comrade Theophilus Ibodeme, attributed the killing to political disagreements between Daniel and some politicians in the area, adding that his corpse will not be buried until proper investigation into his murder was carried out by the police.
