APC ticket: Tambuwal is welcome, say Buhari, Atiku

The entry of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, into the presidential race, has not dampened the enthusiasm of aspirants for the ticket of the All Progressives Congress.

Findings in Abuja, on Sunday revealed that the supporters of Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and a former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, have so far been the most active in reaching out to delegates.

It was learnt that Buhari, who was in Anambra State for a private function, took advantage of the visit to meet with delegates in the South-East.

Confirming this development, a member of the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Mr. Osita Okechuckwu said, Buhari was not in any way threatened by Tambuwal’s entry into the race.

This, he said, explained why the retired general had been busy meeting with delegates.

He said, “He was in Anambra for the burial of his late lawyer friend, Chike Ofodile and he took advantage of the visit to meet with our people, friends, party members and delegates.

“He (Buhari) is not taking our party people for granted. His visit shows he cares and that he has not been taking them for granted.”

Also speaking, the Director Publicity of the Buhari 2015 Support Group Centre, Dr. Chida Maduekwe, explained that the Buhari Campaign Organisation was not resting on its oars.

He explained that the campaign was putting finishing touches to plans to further unveil Buhari’s detailed plans for Nigeria and Nigerians when he gets the chance to govern again.

“We have a lot of programmes coming up beginning from next week,” he said.

The Atiku Campaign Organisation is also not leaving anything to chance as the former Vice President used the most part of last week holding high profile meetings with his former boss, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo as well as party faithful in the South-West.

The Managing Director of the Atiku Media Office, Mallam Garba Shehu, in an earlier interview said, the former Vice President was holding consultations with party faithful especially delegates ahead of the party primaries.

He said, “Turaki’s national profile has not diminished. He is still the Turaki people know and have come to love and respect, he is not taking this for granted that is why you see him going round the country and reaching out to people to mobilise support.”
