Forgive Us, Baba – Leadership of PDP Beg Obasanjo

Olusegun Obasanjo
Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has begged the former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, for forgiveness.

The PDP asked Obasanjo to forgive the past and lead the party to success in the next year’s elections, Sahara Reporters provides.

The statement was made by PDP National Chairman Adamu Mu’azu, who spoke on behalf of the party in Abuja on October 8 while receiving the Labour Party defectors.
“All of us must beg Obasanjo to forgive us. We need to beg him. He is very prayerful and we need to ask him to forgive us so that we can be forgiven. We are your children. We have made mistakes and baba, please forgive us. Come and lead us. We are your followers and we assure you that we are all good boys and girls. We have sinned. Baba please forgive us.”
It would be recalled that the problems, which lead to substantial misunderstanding between Obasanjo and the party seniors started last December, when the former country leader wrote an open letter addressed to the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan. He publicly shamed the president in connection with corruption, terrorism, second term and other issues. The letter caused hot discussions both among Nigerians and the top politicians. Some supported Obasanjo, while the others were outraged by his move.

The saga continued after Jonathan replied to the infamous letter, which resulted in another wave of talks.

Among numerous other points of clashes, there was a matter of Chibok girls abduction. Weeks after the tragedy, the former president allegedly offered the Federal Government to negotiate with Boko Haram on the girls release blaming the authorities for acting slowly.
“If the administration had acted quickly, we could have rescued them.”
Despite the problems in the relationships between the sides, Obasanjo after all still remained the PDP membership card holder.
