ABEOKUTA — Tragedy struck yesterday, in Temitope axis of Idiroko border town when three persons including two siblings and a woman were burnt to death.

The incident occurred when two vehicles being used for bunkering business had a head-on collision and burst into flame.

Vanguard gathered that one of the victims simply identified as Fatai, his younger brother and a woman who reportedly engaged in illegally trans-border crossing of petroleum products between Idiroko border and Republic of Benin died in the inferno.

It was gathered that the three were returning from a smuggling base generally referred to as “beebe”, before their Nissan Sunny car with number plate, LAGOS AKD 194 BS, collided with an unmarked Ford bus loaded with fuel.

Vanguard further gathered that the unmarked Ford bus, laden with 200 units of 50-liter capacity jerry cans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) was heading to the beebe petroleum black market for onward movement to the neighbouring country before the accident occurred.

An eye witness said in a hurried movement to avoid being caught by security operatives, particularly the Nigeria Customs Service, the vehicles collided in front of a filling station located.

Police officers from Idiroko Divisional Headquarters also arrived the scene and towed the carcasses of the burnt vehicles.
