Joan Rivers had Joked about Death A Day Before Suffering Cardiac Arrest

You all must have heard by now that comedienne Joan Rivers is currently in a medically induced coma after she stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest while undergoing a throat surgery at a New York City clinic.

81 year old comedienne, Joan Rivers was undergoing a minor medical procedure at a local clinic, Yorkville Endoscopy. Doctors were putting a scope down her throat to check her vocal cords when she stopped breathing. It was not a major surgery and according to sources and Rivers was sedated at the time. New York police confirmed that a 911 call came in around 9:40 a.m. local time reporting cardiac and respiratory arrest. Rivers was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, was initially listed in critical condition but now has been placed in a medically induced coma.

However, it has emerged that just last Wednesday, a day before the cardiac arrest, the 81 year old

comedienne had joked about death.

Rivers had performed at Laurie Beechman Theater and  a source, who was in the audience for the show, told CNN that Joan joked about death. He said Joan said:

'You know I'm 81 years old, and I could drop dead at any moment and you would be so lucky because you will have a story to tell your friends for the rest of your life.

Rivers was in fine form, the source added.

"There was no sign (Wednesday) night that she was declining. Her show was over an hour long and she never stumbled or even paused to catch her breath. She even mimicked people talking about what it was like to see her drop dead on stage.

Joan Rivers' daughter, Melissa Rivers, has issued a statement saying her mum is resting comfortably.

"I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother. She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers," she said.

Rivers had been scheduled to perform her comedy act at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, New Jersey, Friday night. But right now, prayers are going up to heaven that she makes it through this.
