It was a tragic end for a family of five including father, mother and three children in Abeokuta, Ogun State as they were found dead yesterday in their room.

The incident occurred at 3, Ireti Akinbode Area of Temidire-Sabo, Abeokuta North Local Government Area.

Aliu Adeoye, until his death lived with his wives. The younger died with her children in what members of the community have described as mysterious death.

Vanguard gathered that Mrs. Adeoye, fondly called “Iya Aliya”, her husband and three of her children slept in a room, while the older wife and her children also slept in another room.

It was further gathered that although Adeoye and his younger wife and children died, nothing happened to his older wife and her children.

A resident in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity old Saturday Sun that the community was woken up with the wailings of the older wife who told them about the tragic incident.

His words: “Initially, we thought it was armed robbery or probably from the mosque but when we listened very carefully, we observed that it was like a dirge and we rushed out to find people in front of the house.”

“We learnt later that the first wife was the one that alerted her neighburs and other members of the community, you know it is a polygamous family, the wives were always fighting. I don’t know what could have wiped out the family members, I have never seen this in my life”.
“Some people are saying it was generator fume. They used generator but it was always at the side of the house, as you can see the compound does not have gate. But one thing is that the wives were always fighting, cursing each other and it got to a stage that community leaders had to intervene but all to no avail”.
The state Police Public Relation officer, Muyiwa Adejobi who confirmed the incident added the cause of the death was still unknown assuring that autopsy when conducted on the bodies would reveal the cause of their death

His words: “The police found the body of five people in the building this morning, the cause of the death is yet unknown. We also heard an allegation that some people wanted to lynch a step mother to the deceased and nearly set the building ablaze.

“We cannot ascertain the cause of the death for now, there are allegations here and there but the police will do what need to be done, that is postmortem, that will tell us the cause of the death.
“We have versions to the story, some said it was a carbon monoxide from the generator, some said it was spiritual that the step mother actually killed them, some even said she sprayed something in the room but the medical practitioner, through postmortem will tell us the cause of the death,” he said.
