United States’ Police Shootout Kills Kidnapped 5-Year Old Girl

After a high-speed chase that ended in a construction area in Leavenworth, Kansa, United States, a 5-year-old girl was killed in a shootout between her abductor and police officers, authorities said Saturday, July 19.
According to Leavenworth Police, Chief Patrick Kitchens, Cadence Harris was kidnapped early Friday evening and a chase began, he said at a news conference, as reported by NBC News.

The chase led from Atchison, Kansas, into Missouri, then back into Kansas before ending when the suspect’s car got stuck in the construction area, Kitchens said. The suspect and police then exchanged fire, and the suspect was wounded. Continue..

Kitchens said there were early reports that the suspect fired on the girl during the shootout, but he said it was not clear whose bullets killed the girl.

He said police were not commenting on where the girl was kidnapped from, but he said there was some sort of relationship between the girl and the suspect but police were trying to sort that out.

He also did not identify the suspect, who was reported to be in serious condition in a hospital.
