PICTURED: The last living Chinese women with bound feet more than 100 years after the centuries-old symbol of beauty and status was banned

The pictures of the women, now aged in their 80s and 90s after foot binding continued in rural areas until around 1939, were taken by Hong Kong-based photographer Jo Farrell. Once a symbol of beauty and status, foot binding, also known as lotus feet, was carried out in China since the 10th century, falling out of favour in the early 20th century before it was outlawed in 1911.
