NMA Demands Forensic Identification of Dead Victims

The Nigerian Medical Association has expressed shock over the recent bomb blast in Nyanya area of the the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with a call on the Federal Government to carry out a forensic investigation into the incident.

The NMA, in a statement by its President, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, said it was worried over the consistent deterioration of security in the country, despite several statements from government that it was ‘’on top of the matter.”Continue after the cut....

The association, therefore, called for more imaginative ways of contending with the security challenges in the country, especially through effective border and community policing and the use of intelligence gathering technologies.

The NMA condoled the families of all those who lost their lives and sympathised with the families of those who sustained various degrees of injuries in the bomb blast.

Enabulele said, “Information reaching the headquarters of the NMA suggest that there is an ongoing scramble for bodies by relatives of the victims due to lack of a uniform and centrally coordinated operational procedure between medical authorities and the law enforcement agents. 

“It is a national shame that after 100 years of nationhood, Nigeria is yet to evolve and standardise, adapt and adopt standard operational procedures in handling bodies of victims of mass disasters in line with international best practices. 

“We therefore call on the Federal Government and the FCT authorities to use all available human and material resources which abound in the country to institute a full scale forensic investigation into last Monday’s deadly bomb blast at the Nyanya bus park.”
