ABU Professor, Jenks Okwori, Dies From Injuries Sustained

The auto crash which took the life of two lecturers of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Sam Kafewo and Martins Ayegba, has today taken their colleague Jenks Okwori.

Jenks Okwori had been in a coma since last Friday. Several students were injured in the accident that has now claimed the lives of three academics.

Mr. Okwori’s death was confirmed in a statement released today by a group that had launched a fund-raising initiative to fund his transfer to Netcare Milparks Hospital in South Africa.

The statement read, “Dear all, many thanks for visiting this page. We just received the terrible news that Professor Jenks couldn't make it and passed away. Our sincere condolences to his relatives, friends, colleagues, students, and everyone whose hearts he has touched.

“We're tremendously grateful to all who expressed their empathy and so swiftly and generously made donations. We'll get in touch with them soon concerning their contributions. We're leaving this page online for those who haven't received the tragic news yet but all payment options have been de-activated.”
The friends and sympathizers who sought to raise funds to save his life were seeking about 40 million naira to rush him to South Africa.

A professor of theater and performing arts, Mr. Okwori was also the principal investigator of a MacArthur Foundation-sponsored Center of Excellence on Development Communication based in the Department of Theatre and Performing Arts, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He was known as a leading user of theatre for citizen action in Nigeria.
