1,000 pupils to compete for Lagos Power Kids 2014 Medals

At least 1,000 pupils from different schools have been listed to contest in the 2014 Lagos Power Kids, LAPK, programme, an energy initiative of the state government through Lagos State Electricity Board, LSEB, in collaboration with the EKO Project and Society of Petroleum Engineers.

The initiative, which is slated for Wednesday 29th January 2014, forms part of the state government’s energy development plan to help improve energy efficiency and conservation practice amongst its citizenry.
According to a statement from the office of the General Manager, LSEB, Mrs Damilola Ogunbiyi, the objectives of the annual power kids program is to improve the knowledge of the students about energy sources, the power sector and inculcate a habit of energy conservation from an early age.

Ogunbiyi, who explained that the initiative started in 2011 with 30 schools participating added that Governor Babatunde Fashola at the 2013 Governors Education Awards further extended the number of participating schools from 30 to 50 schools for the 2014 edition of the program. “20 students have been selected from each of the 50 schools on merit, taking the number of participating students to 1,000.”

She disclosed that in the 2014 LAPK program, the students would be taught about energy and electricity, energy conservation and efficiency, dangers of electricity and simple circuit experiment, sources of energy, solar energy and oil and gas.
